ILs popped in and offered up to £500 towards a double buggy....

After being shocked at the kindness, my mind started spinning back to the hours I spent staring at doubles and my narrow front door before DH & I decided to hold off on a purchase until after trying to keep DD 2.7 in her Mutsy and put newborn DS in the Ergo sling for a month or so and see if a double would really be worth the expense. I don't drive and even grocery shopping is carried home on DDs buggy. After this month of trying the buggy and sling option I have been leaning towards getting a double after all, so this unexpected gift will be incredibly useful if we take them up on it. So a few questions...

  1. How long did your older DC need a buggy?
  2. What double should we get? (I love the look of the Baby Jogger City Select, but will it be worth the expense?)

Any words of advice/experience? Thanks! :)

No, get the Out n About Nipper. It's the bees knees. Better then the P&T in my opinion.

MOUNTAIN BUGGY!!!!! I have 9 doubles and the MB is way ahead...Only thing that I use as much is my emmaljunga double simply because both babys can face me which I like :)

P&T is naff all use with a larger toddler and a newborn in the winter as the toddlers tend to be too tall to sit comfortably under the hood. Have got myself the nipper (already had P&T) 360 double for DD1 who will be 3yrs 3 days when DD2 arrives.

we took DD to John Lewis and tried out all the doubles they had if that helps

baby jogger city mini double. Wonderful but it won't fit in your door, neither will the 360. Expect p&t would or city select

letsblowthistacostand · 29/08/2010 11:25

We have P&T. DD1 is 4 and still needs the buggy as we walk everywhere, side-by-sides would not fit in our door. It's a good buggy for the big age gap as once the younger child can sit up the older one can go in the back and hop in and out as she pleases. Only problem with P&T is you can't get too much shopping in there when you're using both seats.

I saw a BJ City Select yesterday and it looked nice but MASSIVE. Bigger than the P&T I think (just had an ogle at someone elses so can't be completely sure).

Can't you get a doubles seat for the Mutsy? Your other option might be to get a sturdy pram/buggy board combo. We also have a bee+ and the kids (DD2 is 2) switch off on going on the board or the seat. Does the Mutsy have a buggy board?

I just don't think it's fair to ask a not-quite-3yo to walk to the shops, around the shops, and walk home, it's just too much for them!

lifeas3plus1 · 29/08/2010 19:59

I have the Baby Jogger City Select and it is not massive. I've had it on the bus a couple times and today got on easier with it than the P&T's on the other side. Grin

I love it s0 of course I feel it is well worth the expense.

(Anything is worth the expense if you don't have to get a Phil and Teds. I hate them, sorry Blush )

nicolamumof3 · 29/08/2010 20:39

I loved my p&t in toddler mode no experience for newborn wouldn't be my first choice, but no double ticks all the boxes really. nipper is fab choice as so light.

in answer to your question. DS2 used double buggy daily til 3.2yr then used board for four months then walked.

Thanks for all the replies! :)

We decided to go ahead and take ILs up on their kind offer, so a double buggy is in our near future - Hooray! With my front door being as narrow as it is, and the fact that we are stuck in gloomy rainy Scotland, with winter fast approaching, I think we're eliminating anything that won't fit through the front door/needs folded outside. So our options look to be the P&T or the BJCS. We went yesterday to the local pram centre and after lining them up and noting not a huge difference in size and then driving them about with DD & DS snuggled inside, the BJCS won hands down on everything other than price. SO we went home and talked it over and I'm happy to report that the BJCS will be delivered by Thursday Grin (Let's hope it's worth every penny!)

I got a double buggy when ds was 2.4 and dd was born. Actually we bought it 3 months before she was born but it was about 4 weeks after she was born that we used it. It went back within a fortnight.

Get a side by side and make sure the rain cover actually covers below their feet until they are out of it. Some don't.
