Cool? Could you tell us more about it? Would you put a newborn in the seat unit? Does it fold in one piece?
AnAngelWithin · 27/08/2010 14:34
its lovely!
BUT...I wouldn't put a newborn in it. The way the seat goes, their legs are upright a bit. But I suppose thats personal choice. DD3 is 13 weeks and looks comfortable enough in it as she is a bit bigger.
It doesn't fold with the seat on it (that i can work out anyway!) but it comes off so easily anyway and the seat itself goes so flat you can just pop it flat in the boot or behind a seat. This however is a myther with public transport!!!
The seat does come off very very easily though in a split second.
The harness height is adjustable and the harness pads are lovely and cusioned.
The hood rod does seem a bit flimsy though.
It does come with a (albeit small!) shopping basket so at least you've got somewhere to out your bread and milk when you pop to the shop!
Having had the old zapp for dd2, i was annoyed that I always ended up gluing the top of the handle back on. With this xtra, they are screwed on underneath so that's better.
The covers come off easily to wash them
When its facing you, it only has 2 seat positions, fully reclined and semi reclined. It won't sit right up like it does if you have it outward facing. Which is a bit of a letdown really as when dd3 is older and wants to sit up more, I won't be able to have her facing me. But the semi recline is still pretty upright so you might get away with it if your little one doesn't like sitting bolt upright!
The raincover is better than on the old zapp.
It's only a teeny bit heavier than the original zapp, but then there is the frame on the seat unit now to consider.
All in all, I give it a thumbs up, just the not being able to fold it flat on a bus/train in one piece will be the letdown! But for the car its fab.

I'm pretty keen on the Zapp Xtra, the only thing that's putting me off is the seat being a bucket type seat.
My LO is 12 weeks, she's in the main seat of her beyond heavy travel system at the moment- feel like my back is going to break hoofing it up and down to our flat... she takes at least one nap, usually more, a day in the pushchair.
When you say legs are upright, is there quite a difference between bucket bit and footwell? Do you think it possible to kind of pad out the footwell bit so legs lie flat? Maybe they're not as bothered about it as I think! Can't decide between this and Maclaren stroller that faces away....really would rather have option of her being able to face me too but I don't know if she might be more comfortable lying flat.

The bucket seat suits dd as she is in a hip harness at the moment and the raised bit gives her little feet and legs something to rest on! I took it out up to the shop this morning and I have to say, I really do like it!! I bought the footmuff as well so she was nice and cosy. I'm just wondering if it's possible to use something like the newborn headhugger and support out of the maxi cosi to make the seat less bucket like? It's like a wedge in the car seat...if that makes sense?!?

Silver Cross Wayfarers (ages old pushchair) came with wedges to make the bucket seat flatter.

If it helps I have a navy blue Silver Cross wedge you can have for free to try out.
