Phil and Teds: when can you reasonably change from newborn/toddler to toddler/toddler mode?

My 7 week old hates the cocoon. I know we're still weeks or months away from being able to convert to toddler/toddler mode but I'm wondering what's the earliest you can reasonably put a (big, chunky, thriving) baby in the bottom seat of the doubles kit... Three months? Or even earlier if you use the padding designed to make newborns fit more snugly in their car seats?

Was thinking it might be ok to try the toddler seat soonish as it's not that different from a car seat and we're not going to be out of the house for a whole day - it's usually just one or two hours.

Is this valid reasoning or should I really wait till she's 4 or 5 months old?

Thanks!

Hmm, I dunno - personally I stuck it out until about 5 months. The toddler seat is really quite upright and barely reclines at all.

Do you have to have her in the cocoon? I used to just lie DS2 direct on the base in the summer. It is much roomier without the cocoon.

Or what about a sling? That might enable her to be a bit more upright but also better supported.

I changed DD into the toddler seat at 4 1/2 months. We have the sport and the back seat reclines a bit so it was fine for the odd hour out of the house, I used a buggy snuggle to keep her toasty.

Isn't she hot in the cocoon? My friend had a summer baby and didn't get a cocoon, she just put her in the lie flat part.

second or third the suggestion about putting baby directly on lie-flat seat without cocoon, my DS grew out of the cocoon at about 10 weeks, then lay flat til around 4-5 months (to tired to remember anything exactly, sorry)

I thought it was supposed to be 6 months, but I changed at 4 months.

We didn't bother with the cocoon at all; DD went straight into the lying-flat position. We put her in the toddler seat when she was three months or so because she was massive and had outgrown the lying-down bit.

I had already bought and used the cocoon when I realised you can use the lie-flat bit without it. And then half forgot again or I wouldn't have written this post. Will give it a go without the cocoon - I also find that the bottom of the top seat is way too close to the baby's legs when using a cocoon in the Vibe!
Thanks for the feedback all x

i put mine in @ 3 months because he was too big for the flat seat, he was okay

I did 12 weeks, using chunky blanket as lining/head support. He loved it! recline the bottom seat though
