PLEASE HELP! Nipper; P&T; or vintage pram with toddler seat

DS1 will be 22mths when DC2 is born end Sept.

I like the idea of having proper pram for new baby but think DS1 will still need some kind of seat - love the idea of a vintage silver cross with a toddler seat but am not able to test drive one- is it a crazy idea?!
Does anyone know of a modern (smaller/lighter) pram that works with just a little toddler seat like this?

Options 2 and 3 are Out n About Nipper - which I love the look of, or P&T which I don't love so much but the practicality of being able to get through doors, on a bus etc makes it appealing.

Sorry for the ramble... any advice much appreciated!!!

Key question: How often and how far do you walk?

thisisyesterday · 05/08/2010 21:39

only downside of a toddler seat on a pram is if your DS still sleeps in the buggy ocassionally?

i had a proper pram for ds1, but hardly used it with ds2 at all because i needed 2 reclining seats

ended up with a double mountain buggy which was fab. for ds2 and ds3 i got a lovely teutonia which is rear-facing

have P&T and just got nipper double as toddler too big for newborn set up, Nipper is amazing and really not as wide as I thought, it even just fits through our front door, is easy to push, lightweight and DD1 loves it already.
A vintage pram looks lovely but my mother assured me that it was unpractical, heavy and 3 out of the 4 of us hated sitting on the seat (no 4 didn't get the option being the youngest!)

I used the vintage pram and toddler seat and it was fine for me - walk locally etc also had a P&T for in the car though. couldn't get the nipper 360 then and loath fixed wheels.

Emmajungla and bertini do good prams with toddler seat options but have swivel wheels etc or there is the ABC 3 wheeler with reclining top set up top.

Thanks everyone!

I do live up a hill so whatever I get will have to be pushed up there! Especially as I'm guessing I won't be getting a bus with either a nipper or a vintage pram.
As I will still have our Maclaren I thought if I was doing a trip round small shops and needing to get on a bus I could take that with a sling.
I just feel like I need 5 different buggies for the different daily scenarios!! It's so hard to choose!!

Has anyone used a nipper from birth?
I kind of always think it's nicer to have a proper pram facing me for a newborn.. but that would mean getting a pram first.. and then maybe a nipper a few months down the line.. which may be excessive! DH would definitely think so!

It sounds like nippers are nicer to push than P&T... oh decisions decisions.. its driving me mad!!

Emmaljunga have beautiful prams which are very heavy but far better than the old silver cross etc. lower centre of gravity and they fold and are just wonderfully engineered.

You can get a Babydan seat or indeed an emmaljunga one and stick that on.

I kept my Emmal for our next child, as it is so lovely - use it for the first 6 months then you can use something else like the P&T.

I did use a London Baby Coach for a bit with ds1, but I was naive and foolish - took it to sainsburys (just!) and filled it with all the shopping all around him. Grin

Also had a near miss going over a bridge as the brakes were shit and it was really top heavy.

You will struggle with doors and shop aisles with an SC. Emmaljunga or similaris much better idea.

LBC fyi!

Thanks Flightattendant - the Emmaljunga look great.. and they do have similar style toddler seats.. very useful!

i don't think a toddler seat would be practical over winter tho tbh. nipper best out of those you've mentioned or what about a mb with carrycot?

Flighttattendant · 06/08/2010 17:29

No problem - I came across Emmal. when I was after something really nice as a proper pram.

There are a lot second hand hardly used on ebay because they are so heavy, nobody uses one after about a year!

Mine came from there (all three of them) Blush

Nicolamumof3 - what's mb?!

Ye olde Mountainus Buggius

Grin

Which I should say are brilliant. It's the best buggy we have had, well on a level with the emmal but more versatile as it is narrower and lighter.

Flighttattendant · 06/08/2010 17:47

(having had about 60 different prams and buggies - this is why I am such a bore on the subject) Grin

Oh yes I love the mountain buggy double.. but quite big no? I've only ever pushed a single Maclaren around so feel incredibely daunted by every double buggy I see up close!!

Just seen this toddler jump seat that works with the Baby Jogger classic or elite.. community.babycentre.co.uk/post/a7182355/baby_jogger_jump_seat

Quite inspired!
