Mountain buggy or nipper

Hello, p and t is nearly sold.....I hope! Have decided against bjcm double due to rubbish access to basket, nice pram indeed though.......so it's between the double nipper or the mountain buggy.....I've tried to find dimensions and picture themnin my head.....bear with me here!.......I think the mountain is a smaller footprint? It's a bit narrower, is it not as long out front as the nipper therefore feels bait smaller to get about? I know it's heavier but that's ok as I assume still easy push with air tyres. Is eitherbbetter option, hav found a bargain mountain online so is only bait more than a nipper, resale should be ok with either I think, I wont need it longer than about 9months, worth it for that time though to get out more and longer distances by foot....help me choose please wise mums net people!

Sorry for above spellings....am online with no glasses , they scare the baby! The toddler says they look silly, so I can't see very well, I will not be deterred from my pram search though! Off to do hair ....toddler not mine sadly.

We have bought the nipper and I took it out for the first time last week (borrowed a baby to go with my toddler) and was really impressed with it. I could push it with 1 hand, it was light, easy to turn, both girls were really happy in it and I was amazed to find myself prefering it to P&T!

i would always have said mountain buggy without a doubt.
but they've been taken over by phil and teds now... i know chariots have stopped selling them because they were concerned about the build quality

the thing that set MB aside from the rest was how bloody well made they were, hence the high cost

so, if i were you i would buy a second-hand mountain buggy

or, if you really want new then i'd go for nipper

I would say nipper I've tried both and the nipper was easier to push.

mamatomany · 05/08/2010 10:54

I'd try and get an older 2nd hand mountain buggy, I sold mine on ebay and it had literally been used once as it wouldn't fit in my boot, somebody got a hell of a bargain.

mummyistheword · 05/08/2010 14:03

Sounds like maybe go for nipper....may be wise as I could easy afford new, get ok resale and I have tried one in a shop.....versus I have never had a push round of a mountain buggy as can't find one in a shop near me...the one I found online is I think a 2009 one, reduced to £399, is this ok re the build quality? Ie is it pre the takeover thingy mentioned above? Thanks for replies so far, any more info most welcome. Xx

both are great and easy to push etc. the only advantage i find is the double front wheels on the mountain buggy. If you are going off road or even just up and down kerbs alot the single front wheel of the nipper can make it a bit unstable especially with kids of different sizes in.

raindroprhyme · 05/08/2010 17:35

Another point, you have to buy the basket for underneath teh nipper seperately but it does have huge pockets behind each seat.

thisisyesterday · 05/08/2010 19:09

£399 for a new 2009 one is fabulous value! i would go for that

mummyistheword · 05/08/2010 23:35

cool raindroprhyme, good point re the balance of nipper with diff size loads! it may well be baby lot of time as older will probs hop in and out as she needs to so mountain buggy has another plus point, it is a good buy at 399, i think it comes with raincover so id only have to buy a buggy snuggle for baby to make it cosy and maybe a headhugger i guess, thanks again.

Well the p and t has gone gone gone!! Yay!! Ordering new double for same day dispatch in morning.....think will be the mountain buggy, thanks for all your info, tried toddler in nipper and she was very comfy but had to lean right forward to see, a younger one would struggle I think so mb it is, also easy fold and bigger easier to get to basket,,,any last minute advice either way will b good reading....x

Mountain buggy is fab but you do need to be strong to lift when folded ie into cars etc and does take up alot of space. I have 3 mb doubles and all have to live in the garage or outside for these reasons!! If this is not an issue then sure you'll love it.

ChristianaTheSeventh · 09/08/2010 08:54

Nipper are brilliant, long lasting and very easy to push

mummyistheword · 09/08/2010 15:03

hiya shatteredmum, i know they are heavy to lift but are they ok to push vs the nipper? also on babygizmo online review it shows it standing folded, is this workable? im hoping it will fit in my door, have measured...theres room for it upright in hall and def for it to stand folded under coats pegs etc, think i should measure boot to be on safe side or i cant use car! havent ordered as 10day wait. thought id ponder it again, can get nipper much quicker. x also silly quest but i cant see a mb in a shop to check for myself but vs the nipper, which is fairly compact i guess does the mb look totally huge and in your face?! x

I have 2nd hand nipper with fixed wheel - very light to push, easy to steer, doesn't feel too wide, but then I don't bring it indoors or into car. Folded in shed mostly.

I take it to walk into village (50% rough off-road, 50% road) with 4yo who usually walks there and hitches a ride back, and it doesn't feel uneven.

My only reservation is that they seem easy to topple backwards, which has only actually happened once! I try to make sure that doesn't happen by parking it against something when, say, leaving baby in it sleeping.

shatteredmumof5 · 09/08/2010 16:02

Hi.....I'm afraid the mb is big but the push is light!!! Although it says it is freestanding folded mine always fall over and I'm afraid even folded they do take up a he'll of a lot of room. Can't comment on nipper though as never had one. :)

shatteredmumof5 · 09/08/2010 16:05

If you are in Essex you're welcome to come and try it out for size etc :)

mummyistheword · 09/08/2010 19:45

ahhhh bless you shatteredmum, am in the frozen north however so will have to imagine! am about to order to nipper, it suits toddly and i know she can lean round to kiss and hold hands of the 3 week old! safe bet as i have tested it, mb could be expensive mistake, oh would go mad i reckon! have had soooo many buggies, fun tryin em though, can afford to get lots lovely accs snuggle, new change bag if go for nipper, thankyou for your advice, helpd me choose! the mb is probs abit over the top for what i need, if toddler younger would be first choice but she is a stonking good walker so the little nipper will proba be just handy enough and she can hop in if she wants, thanks again everyone, x
