Has anyone used a 'suitable from 6 months' pushchair for a younger baby?

I have a lovely 'from birth' pushchair, but it is very bulky. I have therefore bought an umbrella pushchair for in the car. I have sat DD in it, and she looked very comfy - no more upright than her car seat, it supports her head and back quite well, and she has good neck strength. She is 14 weeks old, and is a big baby.

I obviously do not want any harm to come to my baby so would I be very wrong to use it on the odd occasion?

In case I have not been clear, the pushchair is 'suitable from 6 months'.

Babyway Day Stroller. Cheap but very good quality - reviews are excellent.

No way, sorry. A 14 week old needs and deserves a bit of padding and comfort, that thing is a deck chair on wheels. Sorry if I'm being harsh but I hate seeing tiny babies in those and regardless of how big your baby is, 14 weeks is so young, too young for that,

misdee · 02/08/2010 12:03

no, not that pushchair. tbh i wouldnt use one of those till a child is well over a year. as baby tends to slump when alseep.

Honest opinions is what I want, so thank you. I have seen babies half her size in similar ones and it does make me cringe. She looked so comfy though... I was amazed.

I would use something like a maclaren triumph with an extra head hugger as that reclines a bit (and used to be sold as from 3 months), for occasional use at that age but would def not use one that didn't recline until they were sitting totally independently etc.

Sorry, I was a bit harsh with the deckchair comment . It's fine and dandy but for an older child.

stinkypinky · 02/08/2010 12:30

MumNWLondon - I would if I could afford one, but I cannot justify that much on a second buggy and cannot find anything suitable on ebay. I will carry the little dumpling for a few more weeks - It is only for occasional use after that - she has a lovely Silvercross XT for when we have room in the boot.

Totally agree about the deckchair comment Rockbird - made me smile!

I have just read another thread about people buying multiple buggies and am totally about the amount of buggies people seem to spend or that someone would buy a new main buggy for a 2nd or subsequent child.

I did find though that once the travel system aspect of "main buggy" disappeared the maclaren became our main buggy.

But yes I agree £80 a lot for an umbrella buggy although I will say they are made to last out 2004 version still ok, just looks worn out.

I was on that thread MumNWL and I think it's fair to say that most people sell each one in turn rather than collect or keep shelling out money. I haven't had nearly as many as some but the sale of one always funded the purchase of the next one with me. So it doesn't work out expensive at all. I want a new pushchair but I need to sell one first, so I won't buy the new one till then.
