We're thinking of getting the Britax Babysafe plus + britax b smart

what are people's opinions on this?

We had been going to get the maxi cosi cabriofix seat and that is still my preferred option but I dont like / cant afford any of the compatible pushchairs. Even the new quinny zapp xtra which I had thought was the one to get has lost its shine for me because it isnt suitable from birth without the car seat.

I do have a 'proper' pram for when the baby is wee but I need something which is lighter and smaller than that and obviously need something to push the car seat on for the nursery run / shops etc.

I need a pushchair which is suitable from birth, has a reversible seat unit, is compatible with the maxi cosi cabriofix or britax baby safe plus, reclines and is not that expensive - our budget is approx £420 for the car seat + isofix base + pushchair.

I promise never to start another thread about this if someone helps me!!! (I am aware Im asked various questions recently and remained clueless!)

My friend has that for her new baby (not born yet) I haven't seen the buggy yet but the car seat is massive compared to a maxicosi cabriofix. I had taken mine into her house the other day and she brought down the Britax to compare it as she thought it seemed large. Don't know if that will make a difference for you.
What about a second hand pushchair and a new carseat and base especially if you have a proper pram anyway..... just a thought.
I use the cabriofix on the zapp wheels quite a bit just for short trips, to creche, to the doctors etc, it's so nippy and compact but also have a 'lie flat' option if we are out and about for longer.

Thanks, I dont mind if its big. Might be a good thing tbh as it is measuring on the large side now (33wk) and ds was/is enormous. I wont be carrying it much.

Dh doesnt want a second hand pushchair.

I just know that whatever we choose pushchair wise has to last as we're skint and can afford this but cant afford something else in 6m iyswim?

We have a mamas and papas ora left from ds and a proper pram too.

it's not the seat bit that is massive (as in the area for the baby) but the sheer size of the carseat. Much, much bigger than maxi cosi. I can imagine if you were clipping it onto a supermarket trolley you wouldn't be able to see a thing!
Sorry don't have anything more useful to add, hope someone else comes along with your solution!

waitingforbedtime · 28/07/2010 17:55

Oh right I see that's ok. I dont use those supermarket things anyways because im a paranoid mother.

i paid £250 on ebay for a bugaboo bee that does all that you've said. got car seat for £45 including clips. you may not want 2nd hand though for car seat, but you'd still have budget left for brand new if you have £400+.

coventgarden · 28/07/2010 19:30

We bought a carrycot for baby to sleep in and use as a pram and then put them in a buggy at 4 months ish. You really don't need anything fancy.

mamatomany · 28/07/2010 20:42

The zapp is suitable from birth with the seat unit, i read on anotherforum that in Europe they cannot suggest a seat is suitable only a carrycot, so we would pass it as suitable from birth in the UK.
I've not seen it in the flesh of course though so am taking somebody else's word for this.

weddingseason · 28/07/2010 20:44

What about a Sola? Absolutely love mine and am almost certain you can get maxi cosi adaptors for it but I don't think m and p advertise the fact as they probably want you to buy their own carseat.

Cadders1 · 28/07/2010 20:52

We have the older version of the Britax travel system and it has been great. Can also really recommend the customer service from Britax - any problems and they have always given excellent and fast help. Not too expensive, and suitable from birth with forward and rear facing options.

waitingforbedtime · 29/07/2010 08:24

Thanks for teh replies guys.

mamatomany This comment * Ideal travel system that can be used from birth when combined with a Maxi-Cosi Pebble or CabrioFix infant car seat (sold separately) on here is what makes me think the quinny zapp xtra is not ok from birth with the seat unit - am I reading it wrong?

this link shows the new Zapp reclined so I think it is suitable from birth. Only available for pre-order though....
I love my zapp but the no recline is annoying. Looks like Quinny have responded to customer comments and kept it very neat and trim and lightweight but making it parent facing and reclining. Now can I justify splashing out on one? mmmmm.

mamatomany · 29/07/2010 11:12

Yes I see what you're saying about the car seat compatibility.
You know if it was me, I'd buy the new Zapp and use your big pram for the first 6 months, occassionally putting the car seat on the zapp frame when you know it'll be less than 2 hours that day.

waitingforbedtime · 29/07/2010 11:46

Thanks Smacs. Its so confusing!

Mama - problem is the pram is a bit of a beast and I dont want hassle getting in / out door ways, trying to hold onto ds etc...

Could he go on a buggyboard ? Which pram is it out of interest, could you sell it to raise funds for the other travel system ?

waitingforbedtime · 29/07/2010 12:00

No he'd knacker a buggy board, he is 3 and size of a 5/6 year old. he normally walks nicely but you never know.

Its mamas and papas pram, cant remember model tbh. Will be getting the britax seat and pushchair I think. Seems best option.
