Buggy for use on country walks, muddy fields, rough terrain / baby rucksack

Can anyone recommend a lightweight buggy that can be used for country walks. Preferably one that folds up.

I've had a look at the reviews for 3 wheelers but didn't find it particularly helpful as most of the reviews didn't specify whether or not their buggy had been used on country walks.

I've also contemplated a rucksack which DS can sit in but DP's mates have said that DS will get too heavy once he's able to walk and may not want to sit in it. So I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on those too.

Thanks in advance

Also - a buggy with a hammock style seat is better for off-road. This is because hammock style seats absorb some of the "shock" of off-road bumps in a way that a fixed boarded seat (albeit a reclinable one) cannot.

3 Wheelers do vary in stability depending on their "footprint" (lenght and width of wheelbase - and where the majority of the weight of the load is transferred - front wheels or back).

I had an easylife sport and almost chopped my fingers off with it. i bought it so i could have a toddler seat on it, i found it was heavy and hard to fold. to be honest i didnt like it, the fabric also faded really quickly, it was also quite dated in design, its also a very hard ride, i believe its another phil and ted design, it did have some good accessories though. the ABC everest (also phil and ted) is a much better option in my opinion but has to be imported, its a much smoother ride.

another good off-road buggy is the baby jogger summit, VERY similar to the new MB terrain, the reviews are good and they have extra features on the terrain and can be bought NEW for £265. you can also get a jump seat for it to make it a double.

I'm guessing you may have had an easylife model with solid wheels - then - the air tyres version is not a hard ride - unless of course you've pumped the tyres up to 45psi?

Sorry to hear you nearly chopped your fingers off folding it - correct folding instructions can be found here and if you are following them you will notice your fingers are not actually in/near any moving parts that could pinch fingers.
The Easylife sport buggy weighs 12kg whereas the New Mountain buggy Terrain weighs 13kg!
Oh and the mountain buggy bottle holders costing £11 each are very very similar to the patented Bagabottle pouches costing only £4 each! ]

Yes the babyjogger summit probably represents better value than the Mountain buggy - babyjogger products are usually excellent quality.

i have two of those MB bottle holders they came free with my buggy, i never use them, they are useless not worth £11 , i use the ones on the basket.

i think the easylife must be alu now, mine was a good 15kg+ it was a beast. its a few years ago now so must be an old version.

Thanks everyone. I think the Land Rover looks perfect but DP insists on something new.

I see the Mountain Buggy weighs 13kg which is really heavy - as much as the iCandy Peach which I'm currently using. It also costs a fortune. The Easylife sport is also pretty heavy. Does it fold up in one piece??

Is there anything anyone knows of that weighs 10kg or less and will fold up in one piece, and is still available new??

The iCandy is turning into a liability on country walks with all the commando style collapsing and lugging across bridges and kissing gates that we've had to do so far!

nipper weighs 7kg

Multimummy · 26/07/2010 21:13

Out N About Nipper Sport Only weighs 7.5kg - has lay back, is new costs only £199 and looks fantastic for off roading....infact - I think I want one!
Sooo light compared to others - and the fixed front wheel really is better for off-road activity (doesn't bounce off lumps and bumps and send you off course like a swivel - or even a "fixed swivel" that still has some "play" in it).

My sister had a twin version of this - used it for 6 years straight (and 4 kids) before the back axel finally snapped (after being overloaded with shopping/kids/picnics/camping gear etc). Pretty durable I'd say.

I would think this is the next best thing to - or modern equivalent to the trusty Land rover... because it does have layback for nap time, and is cheaper than the land rovers were!

Nipper Sport This website has a closer pic to view - wow - why didn't I get one of these ages ago It has suspension and everything - and doesn't cost a bomb either! Fab fab fab! (now to sell a few prams to fund this one.....)

This is lighter than some Maclarens even!

Where can I find more pics - like of it folded and with wheels off etc.

Will it fit in the boot of a Zafira (with all 7 seats in use)? I need answers!

i had forgotten about the nipper, i almost bought the double last year but its quite wide, the single version is perfect.
if you wanted the 360 swivel wheel version its here with free basket and raincover and its 0.5kg lighter than the fixed wheel

i have several friends with nippers and i have never heard a bad word about them
i have bought loads of things from practical pushchairs before and they have been excellent. kiddycare also have them and both are free delivery
