I am about to but a new chest of drawers for the new baby and showed a collegue the one I was thinking of, he said I should knot it, prime it and paint it first.

I nodded along but have no idea what he was on about, any ideas?

I think you need a special solution of some kind to paint onto the 'knots' of furniture to stop discolouration. Not sure what it's called. I'm sure google will have answers.

I've tried googling but am obvioulsy not entering the correct search term as I cannot find anything!

We got some primer which had knotting stuff premixed. Was from B&Q.

You have to knot the wood as otherwise they start to show brown through the woodwork.

Are you buying something with untreated wood?

I have some baby furniture from John Lewis - it is whitewashed but they didn't knot it so it has brown splodges coming through - really disappointing!

Thanks everyone.

The chest of drawers can either be left as it is or painted and it was pointed out to me that I would have to knot and prime it before painting, I guess for the reasons Nosey os experiencing!

Thanks again
