We are redecorating the smallest bedroom as an office. Walls will be light grey with a red blind, red chair and red accessories.

We desperately need storage for all of DH's crap files which are messy ones not nice ringbinder things that you wouldn't mind having on display. Hence open shelves are a no-no.

I am looking at the 3 options below and can't decide if I like any of them really but struggling to find affordable options (max budget of £250 and would really prefer to spend less if poss- we have a whole house to renovate!)

The first 2 are wardrobes but I was thinking we could get our joiner to put shelves in instead for the files. Is that wierd?

I linked to the Ikea one previously but do have concerns on it being stark.

Preferences and any other suggestions desperately needed welcome.

Argos 1

or

Argos 2

or

Ikea

ikea one nicest by miles.

if it is a smallish room wont it all look a bit dark though?

white would go with grey and red..........

purepurple · 06/07/2010 19:38

The Ikea one is by far the nicer.
I am not sure about getting a joiner to put shelves in a wardrobe. they tend to be made of MDF and not very strong. DH had to reinforce and practically rebuild our MFI wardrobes after I used the top shelves for my Stephen King collection. the Ikea ones are designed to be more flexible.

ikea

Have you had a look at Ikea Pax wardrobes? You can fit the interior in any combination you like - so all shelves if you wanted.

I'd go for Ikea every time. Pax are really well made compared to Argos. If you do go for a wardrobe though, instead of shelves we stacked these type of cubes inside for storage.

Thank you all! Decision made. Will go to Ikea this weekend and look at the white and the black options I think.

How about Expedit from Ikea? It has open shelves but you can put in drawers and cupboard doors in any combination you like. I have a white frame with a mix of red and black drawers and cupboards.

LadyBiscuit thank you- the Expedit range looks perfect, and I think it may work out cheaper as well, thanks! I think a mix of drawers, cupboards and open shelves would look fab. Not lookign forward to assembling it though...

Oh good! I am so pleased with mine and get loads of compliments on it - it's our hall cupboard and all our shopping bags, hats etc are in there. And it is really, really easy to put together because the outer sides are so sturdy - I did mine on my own (it's only 2 x 4 though). And it's full deciding where to put all the drawers and cupboards (or perhaps that's just me )

LadyBiscuit · 07/07/2010 09:31

it's full? It's fun I mean!

We have a white expedit unit with some red doors. I was just wondering whether the squares are big enough for files though?
