Would you remove a downstairs loo?

We currently have a very small downstairs loo and a family bathroom on the first floor. We plan to put another bathroom in on the attic floor.

The kitchen is not teeny, but it's not big enough for a breakfast table and so we were thinking about taking out the downstairs loo and knocking through the walls there and with the pantry to create one big space. Still not tremendous but it would be 4x5.5m as opposed 3.5x3.5.

I just hesitate to remove a bathroom, even though it is very cramped and the wall seperating it and the pantry goes down the middle of a window (???). I know the space would be much nicer without it, but is it crazy to do away with a toilet? We spent lots of dosh at our last property putting one in!

wwyd?

Do you have children? I have 3 under 5, and right now a porta-potti with a curtain round it would be a dream - a toilet downstairs would be like winning the lottery!!

I would keep the downstairs loo personally.

For loads of reasons, not least my mobility isn't super-hot and I would find traipsing up and down stairs a PITA.

Remember anyone who visits your house will need to access upstairs if that's where the toilet is (i know some people are funny about people going around their houses!).

I see how having a toilet downstairs for young ones will be great (my DS is still in nappies and next one only just on the way at the moment) but I also think having the kids in the room with me while I cook, or for instance, being able to cook my supper while they eat theirs has to be a big plus too.

When I've lived in houses with small kitchens I've always felt really
"cut off" from the action as no one would keep me company while I cooked. [saddest girl in the world emoticon]

Still, I think Maryz's plan is a good one and we'll give that a go
