I seem to have no tanked water in the house this afternoon. Got cold kitchen water, but no hot downstairs or hot and cold upstairs. Next door adjoining us has got normal supply, but next door not adjoining is the same as us. Water board says not their problem call a plumber...I can't afford a plumber, so does anyone know what may be causing this and what I can do about it myself rather than go without water or call a plumber I cannot pay? please.

If you have cold water coming from your kitchen tap, the mains incoming supply must be ok.

Do you have a cold water tank in your loft?
If so, it suggests that either the mains water is not getting to the cold tank, or there is water in the tank which won't flow out.

But your non-adjoining neighbour has the same problem? That's strange.

Have a look on www.diynot.com/pages/pl/, you will probably get an answer to your query there.

I had this, though my cold kitchen water was only a trickle. I'm afraid it was a massive leak in a pipe outside the house (but on our property, of course, sod's law). If it is affecting your neighbour as well then you might be lucky and it is outside your property. You need to call your water supplier and they will have to come and check your water main on the street/ footpath.

In the meantime you should be able to flush the loo by filling a bucket with water from the kitchen and pouring it into the cistern until it reaches normal level. You will have to do this everytime you need to flush though.

Thank you. I have assertained that the neighbours supply is fine. My son and neighbour got a bit mixed up between them

I have checked in the loft and the tank is empty. The ball cock is not stuck in the up posistion so it sounds like it might be the ball cock valve or water valve?

Will get it sorted next week I hope.

Thanks again.
