new windows... price?

how much would you expect to pay for new windows?
if you've recently had windows done, who did you go with and what was the price per window/door/patio doors?

we desperately need to replace ours, but i;m not sure we can afford it

are places like Everest worth the money? are all of the cheaper ones poor quality?

I paid around 1K per window, for hardwood DG. It was a local firm.

Everest were very very expensive (would have worked out at about 2.5K per window if we had used them).

CR smith were awful. Said anything that they thought would help them get the contract.

When we were deciding on our windows, because it was a local firm we were able to go and look at the factory where they were being made, which we found very reassuring.

I have double glazed PVC windows. Replaced a few recently and single back door cost £500 and small window about £150.

wow, that's a lot of money! what kind of windows were they?
i know you pay more the more openings you have, but i need omre! we have huge windows and only one side opens (previous owners were cheapskates it seems lol) and it just gets so hot in here

hmm do companies keep the same styles for ages do you think? i'm wondering if i can just replace them one at a time

They are hardwood sash and case. They are pretty big windows.
It would have been much cheaper if I had been able to use UPVC, but house is a listed building, and we could only get consent for wooden frames, in a sash and case style.

We had our windows replaced last summer. 6 upvc double glazed windows, just over £3000. We went with a local company who turned out cheaper than other quotes we had.

For our front door we went with a different local company, who turned out cheaper than the other one, for a upvc door and it was just over £800.

oh thaat sounds much more reasonable! we'd probalby do UPVC i think as that's what all the other houses in our road have so we'd want to blend in!

current ones are ancient aluminium things which are horrendously drafty, and the patio door has broken so we can't use it!

was supposed to be doing my kitchen this year, but it might have to be windows instead and windows just aren't as exciting! lol
