How to hide the electricty meter

We have our meter and fusebox in our hall. It used to have a cupboard built around it but when we removed the cupboard lay a new floor and redecorate it fell apart so we need something to replace it. A joiner quote £250 to build a cupboard but that seems a bit pricey for such a tiny cupboard. Anyone got any other cheap ideas which look nice.

buy a cupboard and take the back off it so it boxes it in?

Wont the cupboard fall apart if I take the back off?

you could cut it out to correct size,so leaving some in place...or a supporting piece of wood would stabilise

or fix it to the wall so its secure?

ways round that if you're good with toolbox

Good idea threeblondeboys, pot plant, you could get four brackets from diy shop and screw them to the inside of the cupboard and then to the wall, this will make it stable and secure.

can you not just make a new one? shouldn't be too difficult?

mm thanks - I think that might be what we had before, which is probably why it fell apart when we removed it.

Off to Ikea again!

We got a carpenter to make a little cupboard to box our ugly meter & consumer unit in, while he was fitting our new staircase.
We then varnished it to match the staircase and it looks lovely.
He designed it to complement the staircase, and made it a little bit bigger than required to provide storage space for spare light bulbs, torch etc.
