Anyone with an Ikea kitchen help with a quick measurement?

We are about to get one and went last night to show dh what we are getting and confirm that he definitely approves of all my plans (hahaha) and I meant to do a bit of measuring and asking and forgot. So can anyone help!

I need to know:

  1. the working depth of a pan drawer (will it fit my 24cm deep pressure cooker in?)

and

  1. did anyone fit a 90cm tall double oven in to a 211cm high cabinet by amending the shelving? They only seem to seem double oven units that are 233cm high which might look a bit weird in our layout.

Thanks!

No help on the oven I'm afraid, but our pan drawer is 27 cm deep so your pressure cook should fit in OK.

Gentleness · 26/06/2010 13:03

Fantastic! My current deep drawers are only 23cm (no idea where they were from) and I was debating whether to go for a cupboard for tricky things instead!

Thanks!

No problem. (I meant to write "pressure cooker" of course...)

The depth of the drawers is great; I can fit in two saucepans one on top of the other quite easily. We're really happy with the quality of the kitchen too; it's still looking good after five years.

I haven't got an Ikea kitchen but surely the oven issue isn't about messing with the shelving but the cabinet door that fits above the oven.

I can see from the brochure that it does only seem to suggest a double oven in a 233 and not a 211.

As their doors come in standard sizes if it is a plain design you could technically cut a larger cupboard door to fit taking it off the top where you are unlikely to see it (or use edging strip to cover the raw edge) and you may have to tinker with the hinges.

I am sure Ikea could recommend something. Am very of your new Ikea kitchen. We are having a kitchen extension in a couple of years and a new Ikea kitchen. Sigh.

I'm pretty sure the shelving in the tall cupboards is adjustable. Worst case scenario is that you would have to have an open shelf above the oven if you couldn't get a door to fit. The staff at Ikea were very helpful when I ordered my kitchen so should be able to advise - placing the order takes ages though as they go through the whole plan you bring along to
make sure it will all work - so leave plenty of time & leave the kids at home if possible

LadyBiscuit · 27/06/2010 12:24

I think the shelves are adjustable but also when you go and order your kitchen (I planned all mine on their design system and lo! all the details were automatically on their system), they will advise you on that sort of thing. I totally forgot to order a cupboard to go above the extractor hood and the woman suggested I did.

I love my kitchen - I have 80cm wide drawers and I've gone from not being able to fit everything in my old kitchen to having excess space!

DaisySteiner · 27/06/2010 14:11

Should be fine in the smaller cabinet I think - we've got the tall one but needed a blank drawer front above the oven itself to fill the gap between it and the cupboard door above.

Thanks all! I am getting so excited about the kitchen now. I have managed in some dire kitchens in my life and I just can't wait to get one that is designed as I like it. I am almost so excited that I don't want it to happen in case it is a real disappointment...

Would anyone be interested in checking out the plans for me if I posted the links to jpegs?

Yes please!

LadyBiscuit · 28/06/2010 11:01

Gentleness it won't be a disappointment, I promise. Like you I've had some truly woeful kitchens in my time which were just about buying off the shelf units and bodging them so they fit. This is the first fitted kitchen designed by ME and I love, love, love it

LadyBiscuit · 28/06/2010 11:03

There is a pic of my kitchen on my profile and yes please, would love to see the jpgs

LinzerTorte · 28/06/2010 11:08

Yes please - I'll have a look too!

Gentleness · 28/06/2010 16:46

Ok - here goes! I'm a bit nervous because the guys on moneysavingexpert don't like my plan at all!

Bear in mind that there are basically only 2 rooms downstairs in our house - a through lounge and this, with only an understairs cupboard for any other storage.

This is the floorplan - the entrance from the hallway is the door on the right. The area to the left is the dining area with space for bookcases of cookbooks and toys and stereo and chargers and general whatever. The double doors will open into the garden.

Next a snapshot of the window wall. The wall cupboard nearest the side wall will house the boiler so probs won't be quite like that. The microwave will be below the boiler probably. The other wall cupboards (which won't be glass as they look on here) and that worktop area is for drink making so that can go on without my cooking being disturbed! I'll do my chopping & food prep in the area to the left of the hob and all the crockery and pans will be stored on that side of the room.

And this is the opposite wall, with built-in double oven and free standing fridgefreezer. I need space to store stuff like Christmas decorations & rarely used things and also hate cleaning the tops of cupboards - hence the excessive no of wall units! The worktop in the middle will be my oven/baking area. Food will be stored on that side of the room. My beloved huge whiteboard, hanging mailsort thing and calendar area will be above the tall thin sliding door cupboards on the right, at the kitchen entrance.

So experts - what have I missed? Or what could be better?
I know I have to put the toaster & breadbin somewhere and can't decide where.

Here is an opposite wall alternative.

Not sure about whether the slide front cupboard on the far right should be normal worktop height (as in the spare unit over in the dining area) or the slightly higher writing height that I've used.

Hi those who wanted to see the plans - don't know if you have looked already and hate them or have been happily in RL, but I thought I'd start another thread to get general feedback anyway. My confidence in my design has been a bit knocked by other feedback and I think mumsnetters can be trusted to give good quality !
