Getting new bathroom fitted on Monday...what do I need to know?

As above really. They are doing the upstairs bathroom then going to do the downstairs cloakroom so we will have a working loo at all times.

This is the first time we've had any real work done in the house and I feel a bit intimidated by tradesmen gebnerally!

So any thing I need to know? What I should/shouldn't do?

Horror stories welcome as well as inspiring ones...

We recently had our bathrooms done, and the guys were great. I offered drinks a couple of times a day, but otherwise pretty much left them to it.

Every evening, DH and I stuck our heads round the door, and looked carefully to see if there was anything we were unhappy with, then let them know about it.

Do a formal desnagging on the upstairs by using it while they are still on site (things like, make sure you have a deep bath with as many people who would be in there and check the sealant is OK all the way round)

Don't be afraid to be picky - you are paying for a job to be done, and they should do it well.

Theres pictures of our main bathroom before and after on my profile - it's been so worth it !

Your bathroom looks fab CMOT! I love the natural colour tiles, so classic and elegant.

I think thats another thing thats bothering me, DH and I both work FT so wont be at home whilst they are there, and as we wont get home til 6ish i wouldnt expect them to still be there when we get home. could ring them though in the evening if any problems I guess (just thinking aloud here!)

Excellent tip about using the bathroom before they leave.

I'd ask them to call you at the end of the day so that you know what is going on - ours told us things like not to walk on the floor or whatever at the end od their day. Fortunatly, although we both work ft, we are both home based, so though we travel, theres almost always someone around.

Ask them about arrangements for fixing any issues after they are gone too - ours phoned a week after completion of the project just to make sure everything was OK, and have told us to phone if there are any problems at all.

You might leave them some biscuits and some cans of coke around if feeling generous - our guys didn't expect anything, but I think it helped with the onwards relationship

Notasize. Get stuck in. your money, your bathroom! Agree with all CMOT says. Ask them their plans for the day and check back on them later.

Have you thoroughly talked through the floor plan/design? Presumably you've chosen everything?

Yes we bought the bathroom suite and tiles ourselves,. We had a good chat with them when they came to quote and talked through what we wanted where, what we wanted doing with cupboards etc. The bathroom is fairly small so the bath, sink and toilet will all be in the same position as they are now.

We have a joiner doing other work at the moment so Ive been leaving kitkats etc out for him so will do the same for them too.
