House viewings - flurry then settling?

We put our house on the market nearly two weeks ago, had three viewings in the first week and one this week. Lots of great feedback but the house hasn't grabbed anyone enough to put in an offer.

All has now gone quiet. Would this be because of the footie and people waiting on the budget? Or would there normally be a flurry at the beginning which then settles down?

This was our first house so we've never sold before and don't know anyone who has recently. Just wondered if this is par for the course. (Am also finding it difficult keeping the house in 'ready to view' condition as am heavily pregnant.)

BTW, I know that I'm being hopelessly optimistic to expect an offer in the fist fortnight. Just don't know what to expect really.

The last time we sold a house was quite a few years ago now but this is exactly what happened - we had a flurry of viewings then an offer within a fortnight(although they pulled out a few days later arghh). We then waited almost 6 months before it actually sold. We had a newborn when we put our house on so I know it is really hard to keep it in 'viewing' condition!

There are lots of things affecting viewings at the moment - football, holidays, budget etc.

Hope you get an offer soon cakeywakey!

Not a good time to sell or buy end of June + football/budget, we are waiting until September/October when everybody is back from hols. I wouldn't want a house to linger on the market over the summer. Do you have to move now? Have you found a house to buy?

cakeywakey · 24/06/2010 11:11

Thanks both for replying. Yes, we have found a house to buy. Didn't want to be waiting around. Still early days yet, will see how it goes.

cakewakey i am in the same boat as you - our flat has being on the market for 2 weeks, initial flurry, and now a few coming and going!!! I had not thought summer was a bad time ... i'll keep you posted!

CMOTdibbler · 24/06/2010 13:31

You always get it that way - they have people on their books looking for a x bedroom flat/house, and so you get all of those round, then just new people

our house been on 7weeks. had offer after 3weeks, he pulled out after 2weeks and now waiting again. its a nightmare, and one im not keen to repeat anytime soon. def got flurry at first and now one/two a weekend. but from here on in they will take the house as they find it, im not running around for 3hrs before cleaning everything before every viewing. its doing my head in. we have bought a place (hopefully, depending now on how quick we sell again), seen it once, it was a mess, but i wasnt looknig at their cleanliness, it was the house!

good luck!

Thanks all, feeling a bit more reassured that this is just how it goes. For the money, I think that our house is one of the best on offer locally - but I'm bound to think that .

May well have to let tidiness slip, glad I'm not the only one who finds it a bind. This isn't a showhome, it's lived in by a young family. Only so much I can keep doing.

Good luck Sowhat and Iwant with your sales. Keeping my fingers crossed for us all!
