How can I use wallpaper samples to make pictures?

Hi All

We've just moved house and until we can afford to redecorate the whole house properly, Im looking for some cheap 'art' to cover the walls.

I had the idea of using wallpaper samples in some way- has anyone done this? Would you put them in a frame? if so would you mount them first? Or, would you somehow stretch them over some kind of canvas?

I should point out that my arts and crafts experience to date is a cross-stitched calendar done in the Brownies, so feel free to tell me if Im completely barking up the wrong tree here.

You could cut them to fit into a frame - I wouldn't try covering a blank canvas with paper as it would probably rip (for me anyway!) but you could use fabric instead...

Another thing to try is to buy a sheet of nice wrapping paper - it will fit exactly into a standard large poster frame (can't remember which size frame but I'm sure someone else will). I got a sheet in JL which had an old Beano cover on it and it looks great on dcs bedroom wall. They had a good range.

How about using them as backgrounds/mounts for photos?

Ooh, or my latest favourite thing, using letters? Print or cut out large single letters (or cut them out of wallpaper samples?!), frame and use to spell out words or names? Don't know if that's naff or not but I have letters everywhere and I love them!

I've got loads of old frames which have seen better days and I've filled them with the same wallpaper samlples( I find dramatic, large patterns work best) from B and Q. Will lend a nice individual touch to your decor, especially if you're short of cash. also paint or spray frames in same bold colour.

Thanks all, i will have a go, i agree putting in frames likely to be easier than trying to stretch over canvas.
