Nicest areas in Bath?

Thandeka · 20/06/2010 16:00

Hopefully relocating from London before the end of the year.
Have a DD who is 19weeks. We will be buying so I suppose we probably need to think about good primary schools as we won't want to have to move again within next 5years if possible.

Don't have the budget for a georgian townhouse, but would like a 3/4bed house in a fairly nice area (what approx budget for that!?)

Suggestions please!

Thandeka · 21/06/2010 18:59

Hehe Yeah I want a 4bed detached house with parking in the best area near the best schools for peanuts please!

Cheers elvislives! I like the last of the three best- shame its on a main road (and DH hates DIY!)

I would rent for a year or so first, and get to know the areas you like.

There are some ofsted "outstanding" schools but there are also a lot of excellent schools rated "good".

IIRC Bathwick St Mary is the "best" school but you have to live very close and/or go to that church.

If you look on the council website you can download the primary admissions booklet. At the back of this you can see how many applications each school had, and how far away applicants lived in recent years (no such thing as a catchment area - it depends how many applicants there are in any year).

Right DH got the job! Starts 1st Dec. We are moving in with family in Somerset while we look for a place to buy in Bath rather than renting first.

Thinking Bear Flat area at the min but will see what we find.

Thanks for the tips Thingone.

Decided we have budget of between 250k and £425k (absolute max) for a 4bed house- (or 3 beds and a study downstairs!).

Any more suggestions!

Congratulations on DH getting the job! I wish my DH could get something there... Our best friend lives in Larkhall and while all I know is from visiting him, it's a lovely area with great views, and you can walk into town pretty easily - it's not as far to the town centre shops as it looks! Of course, you will develop thighs of steel from the walk back up...

We're also looking for a 3 bed-with-study or 4 bed (not in Bath). I'm sure, with that budget, you'll find something you want in a nice area in Bath. Just don't hold out for Olde as well!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 05/07/2010 11:21

Ok, what about this? Nice! In fact, you can't have it - I want to move in myself!

This has 3 bedrooms but lots of potential space for a study - it has two garages for some reason, one of which is converted into study space, and attic space that presumably can be converted too. And look at the lovely big garden - and it's not up a vertical hill, either, which is a big bonus in Larkhall!

Thandeka · 05/07/2010 13:19

oooh me likey!
I think Larkhall is supposed to be fab (according to parents neighbours!) but it may be "wrong" side of bath as we want to be nearish wells road to get to MiL's for babysitting!

Then again maybe I should just time the drive.

DH has just cut the budget to £350max. Sniff!
