how noisy is a megaflow?

Thinking of boxing one in between shower and guest room/office. Noisy for sleepers/workers? Does it have a timer, so come on at 6 or whatever like a boiler, or does it just get cracking when a tap goes on?

Our Megaflow is in the loft above the main bathroom. You would barely know it was there! Not noisy at all. It replaced a cylinder which was in the airing cupboard which was cut-into the bathroom, iyswim. That was quite annoyingly noisy.

Interetsing q. re timer. Our HW is 'on' all the time as the Megaflow does just replenish once drained (takes 20mins to refill itself with hot water if you've managed to drain THE LOT!) Ours is 220L for a family of 4 which is possibly bigger than we need as we're not profligate with water!

HerHonesty · 19/06/2010 17:47

never noticed ours so i would say not noisy

trumpton · 19/06/2010 17:59

We replaced a pump and hot water cylinder with a megaflow and it is superb and very much quieter than the pump. We did install a 300 ltr tank as it is well insulated and we sometimes have all the family staying .

orienteerer · 19/06/2010 18:00

Not at all noisy.

DukesOfTripHazard · 19/06/2010 18:18

Great. Can I ask you the dimensions Trumpton and ampere (and anyone else)

Sorry for delay ..not been near computer.
It's huge.

Height 2038mm
Diameter 594mm

DukesOfTripHazard · 21/06/2010 10:17

Jeepers that's massive. Thanks trumpton.

Have got dimensions of smaller tanks in the hand book if you need. We happen to have a BIG airing cupboard so were able to fit it in. I suppose the height doesn' matter if you are going to box it in.

DukesOfTripHazard · 21/06/2010 12:49

Height is actually the big issue. It's going to be in a loft conversion with not great head height. I am LOLing at asking you to go back in the handbook but would love to know the biggest literage for say 1800 head height.

Not a problem . It is a Megatech Heatrae Sadia unvented. 250 ltr is 1731mm tall plus the nut (?) on top of 29mm so 1760mm. 250ltr is still a very good size. We sometimes have 8 or 9 in the house and have never run the tank cold.

DukesOfTripHazard · 21/06/2010 17:34

trumpton thanks so much. It's the little things isn't it? Or the big things in this case.

250 we could fit and a 220 like ampere's might do us. Sorted!

Good luck. It's so good having good pressure from all taps.

Hi, I am planning to get a 300 litre megaflo into our loft conversion bedroom but I Am worried about the potential noise it will make? Does it make any noise? If it does then when apart from gettting heated by backup electricity. Our boiler will be in the ground floor

PigletJohn · 02/10/2018 23:47

It's just a hot water cylinder. It doesn't make a noise.

Jim2811 · 03/10/2018 09:20

Thank you. That’s some relief.

opinionatedfreak · 06/10/2018 21:43

It is a water tank with an electrical element.

You sometimes get a little bit of noise if there is limescale on the element but I can't hear it once the airing cupboard doors are shut.
