We have a big conservatory that is absolutley boiling in summertime. It is a lovely room but tbh I think it is a waste of space really as I don't want to go in their when it is sunny. We've looked into window film etc but ti doesn't really cut down the heat/glare as muchas we'd like. I've just been reading the B-regs thread re conservatotories & noticed that someone on there is going to roof over the conservatory. Can this be done? Woul dit depend on the foundations? If it can be done anyone have a rough idea of how much it would cost in the Northern Counties for a conservatory measuring 22'x12'?
Cheers

It was me!.I have a conservatory attached to my dining room which my kids use all year round as a playroom and has a really fantastic view. But the drawback is that the upvc roofing seal has gone and because the room is not separated from the rest of the house - our heating bills are enormous!.I am thinking of putting a reflex rooflight on and grp roofing the rest because of
the thermal insulation values.I have just had a quote to replace the roof with double-glazed glass and it is over £5000.Hence i need to investigate the price difference.I am also sorting out a sunroom at the back of my house for a kitchen extension with reflex rooflights and possibly a grp roof so i will also price this up at the same time.I don't currently know whether the present framework needs reinforcing - but i think it is worth investigating!.I hope this helps TBW.

I think you mean tile a roof? Only if there is stable walls, if its a run of the mill plastic type then no. You need to have brick pillars to take the load of a roof plate and so on. There may be specialist lightweight tiles around but again it would not detract from the solar gain.
