How much does is cost to lay flooring?

I'm trying to guesstimate costs for flooring in our soon to be here extension, any type really, think we will go for a mix of wooden floors and carpets tho...

So when I see a price of £20 per m2 how much more should I add for labour, underlay etc?

If you have recently had a floor laid, can I ask how much it was and what you have?

TIA

From experience, carpets usually include underlay, fitting etc. in the price. For wooden floors it seems like you can at least double the cost per square metre to account for this - wooden floors are a complete rip off if you ask me. Tiles, which we're going for (well slate actually) - we'll know when DH finally gets around to ringing some tilers.

I had the complete opposite experience from gaelicsheep. In the carpet stores we've been too, the prices you see on the carpets are just for that and underlay was maybe another 7 pounds a square meter (or maybe twice that for higher quality). I think the fitting was maybe another 200 pounds (for two flights of stairs and a hallway only).

We got salvaged mahogony parquet for our ground floor and it was about 15/m2 for the wood and another 15/m2 for the fitting and sanding etc, with a few pokey nooks and crannies they had to work around and it looks great. I mean, the carpet looks good too and certainly does the job, but we get so many complements on the wood floor. I think we got a bargain actually and it was certainly excellent value for the end product.

I think I remember tiling being about 25-30/m2 here in London (just for the labour), but that seems really expensive to me now that I've said it out loud, so to speak.

That sounds like a brilliant bargain! We got quoted £50 a square metre for some pretty boring bog standard light oak wooden flooring and another £40 a square metre for fitting! I think B & Q charges £15 a square metre to fit, but nuff said there I think.

We may actually have been charged an additional £5 a square metre for underlay for our carpets, but fitting was definitely included. That was a small independent store though (the type we've always used). It's different at somewhere like Carpet Right I think - there they even add on extra for the grippers etc.

Some places offer free fitting but this is costed into the price of the carpet.

The underlay and gripper can be expensive. IME it can be better to shop around for these items and not just get them from the same shop as the carpet.

I'm not sure of the cost as my dad is a carpet fitter so I get it done for free! He undercharges as he is so nice. Where do you live?
