Alternative uses for the 'dining room'

Hi my family and I have just moved into a bigger house [rented]. We eat in the kitchen as it is quite big and the dining room is carpeted and I am paranoid about the children encrusting the carpets.
The front room has a wide opening through to the dining room bit but not quite a knock through feel. The dining room has narrow french doors to the garden, well the side of the house really. And erm a hatch to the kitchen. It's quite a dark room.
Not sure whether to make it another sitting room with a sofa, lamps etc or what.

Ours is a playroom/2nd sitting room where my daughter and all her dressing up equiptment lurk.

We turned our dining room into a study. For me. Everyone should have a room of their own

I feel that I would like the DD's stuff confined to their room as much as possible. It already spreads itself all over the house as it is and we have toy pushchairs and scooters around.

Ooh a sewing room! However with it not being seperate probably not practical. Perhaps it could be my sitting room.

I'd use it as a study or as a craft room for meee! In fact, we're moving house and looking for one with an extra room precisely because DH needs to work from home more, and would need a study.

Study

I think I am going to make it a sitting room type room but more for me with my sewing stuff in a cupboard. Might have a screen so that the front room can be shut out a bit.

We have changed our dining room into a second sitting room with tv. We only ever used the room once a year on xmas day. Does anyone actually still use dining rooms?

I would use mine if it had hard flooring and indeed did use the one in my last house. Mind you our kitchen was tiny there.
