Has anyone got their boiler in their loft?

Is it doable? We need a new one and need it moving at the same time. But, can't be done yet as other stuff needs doing first. But, if we moved it to loft we could get this bit over with.

Anyone done it or got one in the loft already? What are the disadvantages? Thanks

NOt in the loft but in the eaves with direct access off upstairs hall. It is fine - although ours is fueled by oil so we had to buy a lifting pump to raise the fuel up to teh boiler. When the fuel froze over New Year and the pump broke we had to crary cans of oil through the house and upstairs to keep it going which was a pain but apartf rom that can't think of any probems. May be slightly trickier if teh loft is just accessed by a loft ladder.

I'm sure I've heard of this being done but it probably ultimately depends on the layout of your pipework, etc

Yes, we have. Easily done, we just needed a light up there as well which was put in at the same time.

Can't think of any disadvantages.

Oh thank you. Yes, it would be just accessed with a loft ladder. Hadn't thought about freezing implications but you leave it on anyway when freezing so that should be ok? Only downsides I can think of is if it gets old and needs us to keep tweaking it a lot - like our current one. Or if we get old and having to use a loft ladder to get up there But that should be ages away and can't base decisions now on life in 30 year's time!

Ours has been up there for the last two winters and we've not had a problem with the freezing weather.

It is accessed by a loft ladder which I do struggle with so if we do need to go into the loft DH goes. However we rarely need to go up there for the boiler.

Ours is in the [mahooosive] loft and is serving us just fine. The only negative I've seen, is the annual maintenance guy, grumbling when he has to climb the ladder with his tool box

Yep, the last re-furb project I did, I put the boiler in the loft. Meant the boiler cupboard in the bathroom could become a love big linen cupboard and it didnt have to be in the kitchen either.

I also installed a loft ladder as any engineer visiting for servicing or an annual gas safety inspection will only use a fixed ladder ('elf and safety) and not one you drag out of the garage.

Oh, excellent! Very relieved it's doable
