What colour should I paint my hallway, stairs and landing?

The carpet is a biscuit colour and the walls are mustardy. Not long been painted but the kids have left their marks so it needs redoing. I fancy grey but dh wasn't sure. I am rubbish at putting colours together so I thought I would ask on here since you helped me with my kitchen paint colour and I love that.

TIA.

More fawn neutral. Biscuit coloured.

Would you consider a yellow? Yellow Ground, Straw and Hay (F&B) are warm but not shocking yellows and they wouldn't clash with a neutral carpet, and add a bit of light.

FabIsGettingFit · 14/06/2010 14:38

It is done!

I wouldn't have yellow again as it just doesn't stay fresh with three mucky monsters children.

I have painted it in Intense Truffle and it looks great.

I need to work out how to position the ladder on the stairs to reach the top bits.

mumblechum · 14/06/2010 19:30

Yay!

Fab, please don't do anything nutty with stairs and ladders unless you have dh footing it to catch you.

Last time I just walked along the landing with an extension thingy & brush taped to the end to get the out of reach bits, ie leaning over the balustrade bit. Can you do it that way?

Intense Truffle sounds rather tasty.

It is okay. DH came home with a proper ladder for use on stairs. Last time we painted there we had to take all the kids paintings down. DH hooked them off and then I caught them as they slid down a brush handle. It was all going really well and then one more came down and nearly decapitated me.

My mouth is watering... I love that colour but it looks a bit scary dark for me - what is it like IRL? Any pics?

WoodlandFaerie · 14/06/2010 23:15

white, paint it all white. it is the only way to go.

FabIsGettingFit · 15/06/2010 07:55

Woodland - you clearly haven't read the thread is you think that.

Gentleness - it is really nice and cosy. Can't do pics. Check it out on the Dulux website. It hasn't lessened the light at all going by this morning and it isn't a bright day.

WoodlandFaerie · 15/06/2010 08:03

no you are right, i only responded to the OP. And i am obsessed with white

FabIsGettingFit · 15/06/2010 08:04

Do you have mucky kids?

WoodlandFaerie · 15/06/2010 08:09

yes, i have two. and used wipe clean paint and have a spare pot in the cupboard to touch it all up with!

Although admittedly, no white carpet, apart from cream in bedroom already there (now a nice manky brown/cream).

FabIsGettingFit · 15/06/2010 08:11

That would drive me mad. I had bought wipe clean paint for the kitchen as they like to share they food with the wall but white would not work here.

we have dado rails in the hallway which tends to be where most of the sticky fingers are left, and lots of doors, so really easy to just get a brush and go over a patch without the need to do the whole thing.

Kitchen - i cannot imagine any colour would keep that wall by the table looking clean, so white, at least it then looks like sticky fingers, rather than just a dirty kitchen!
