Appliance advice

I need to buy fridge freezer, cooker and washing machine. I have got to the age of XX without ever coming across this eventuality... and this is the first time I have posted in this section, so pls be gentle.

  1. Any recommendations on a fridge freezer that is A rated, mostly fridge, slim and tall, with child-lock and NOT expensive. No fancy water dispensers or colour schemes.
  1. Where is the best place to buy for both cheapness and reasonable service / warranty? Any views on Appliance City? Any you would recommend using with Quidco?
  1. Regarding cooker - we are planning on developing kitchen in next 72 12 months so should we go for cheap as chips and replace? How bad is this for us carbon footprint wise? My husband dreams of a six ring range - I think something good looking, economical and bog standard? Any compromises? My motto with regard to household stuff has always been 'pay cheap, pay twice' but is this the case? We have no money now we have kid!

Should we just get one of those ghastly worktop ones with rings and a microwave? We also need someone to fit it... are there any good second hand places?

You can always go on freecycle for an oven to keep you going until you redo your kitchen - they come up quite a lot in our local group.

Re fridges, just go to Currys/John Lewis, find a fridge you like and then look it up on kelkoo or some such to get the cheapest supplier.

Thanks Lala. I am a regular freegler but am a bit paranoid about both fitting and safety. I suppose I could get a gas fitter to do it...

I've just bought appliances from Roy Waring South. Total bargain. They sell appliances that other people can't sell because they don't have their original cardboard boxes. This reduces the price by hundreds of pounds. Give them a ring (you can find them by googling), tell then what you want and they'll sort you out. I don't work for them but have just had my kitchen done and now keen to pass on my discoveries!

I used appliances direct. Can highly recommend them. Also managed to negotiate a discount over the phone.
