Can I dye curtains?

We are doing up our house to move, and I have painted the lounge, but I need to change the curtains. I don't want to buy new ones especailly as one of the windows is huge. How do I go about dying them? Any suggestions welcome!

Dylon machine dye works really well on natural fibres. But are they too big to fit in your machine? Or are they dry clean only? If they are, I think it would need a professional (expensive maybe? ).

a second vote for dylon machine dye- have used it for quite big velvet curtains, works well

I think I could dye them one at a time - although would this affect the colour. Could I end up with 4 different coloured curtains.

In theory it shouldn't matter but you may need a lot of dye. I don't know how much they cost now, but maybe about £6 a throw (and that's enough to dye a pair of jeans I think). Obviously it depends what colour they are now and how dark you want them but it could mount up - is it worth it?
