... when i havent got a contract or anything else set up with my landlord? i am only staying 3 months in the city and was given contact from my boss (he is a friend of his). i couldnt see the house upfront as i wasnt in the country and i dont like the place at all. apart from anything else they havent fixed my internet connection and they drink and get drunk which i am not comfotable with.
is it legally ok to tell them a week in advance that i am moving out ? i am paying monthly (not per calendar month but for the 12weeks).

I think you should try posting this in the legal section, hopefully you will get some replies there

You are normally expected to give reasonable notice, which is generally held to be a 'period of the tenancy' i. e. if you pay weekly a week, pay monthly a month, but, big but, having a residential landlord, being a lodger, generally means you don't really have any rights and vice versa. So a week would be seen as reasonable, especially as you are right at the beginning of the arrangement.
