Can't help but I would like to know this too Actually, we want ours above the fireplace which probably sounds awful, but the sitting room is so small.

We did this in our old flat. We had a wall mounted TV, DH then dug a hole in the wall to run the cables, we ran them under the floor and connected them to the amp etc on the other side of the room. We then plastered up the hole in the wall and redecorated. Looked good but very timeconsuming.

We have a JML cable tidy & then something like this (can't find the exact one) below it, which the tv used to stand on (pre-toddler!). It has our printer, stereo, Xbox, Wii & Sky box on it, with DVDs & games in the drawers. It's not the tidiest thing in the world, but it's not awful.

Thanks ladies..how about a higher bookcase below the tv since it is mounted means we can use the space underneath upwards? maybe a hollow bookcase to help with the cables? what d'you think?
and to Ladythompson: i think ti is best to avoid using the firelace if you intedn on moutning your tv above it to avoid overheating.

We are doing the over fire TV mounting thing. We are having a new fireplace so going for a decent depth mantel to hopefully deflect some of the heat.
It is the only way I can make our living room work with all the toys my 16mo has!

LadyThompson · 08/05/2010 10:21

Yes, apparently as long as you have the right mantel it's ok (and don't have the tv too low).

I just found out they have this stacking shelf system you can fix to the wall beneath the tv and it looks really neat and chic too! You can choose either glass or criss cross mteal stacks..i must say it saves space and lookls good too!
