Crittal windows?

I was just wondering whether anyone else has these in their house? We were thinking of replacing our in our late 30s house, but had an architect around today who said that we should be conserving them as in about 20 years time they will be considered 'period' and that they should be kept to maintain the feel of our house. If you have them why did you keep them?

Keeping them would save a LOT of cash, which we could use for doing up the rest of the house - however would you be put off buying a house with Crittal windows (they are in good nick)?

if you replace them you may well need planning permission , architect should have told you this.

I used to work for the company - the manufacturer, not one who would actually install for you. They're lovely

If in good nick, I would definitely keep them. They are beautiful if maintained well and in good working order. I would far rather buy a house with these windows than with UPVC or similar.

They are definitely a desirable feature. You really should keep them. I imagine they can put off some buyers, as they can be cold and are very expensive to replace, but lots of buyers would be attracted by them (including me).

That's good to hear hester.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I wasn't a fan of them initially, but I'm coming around to the idea of keeping them. I hadn't twigged but the architect pointed out that the standings are pure brass!

I've since found out that our house gets a mention in the Michelin Guide entry for our village - very odd seeing as our village is full of gorgeous stone houses and ours is definitely the 'Plain Jane' in comparison. Maybe everyone else sees something that we don't....
