At the moment ours is horribly wallpapered in one of the shades of yellow that the previous owners of our house were so fond of

But the hall, staircase and landing are our next project and after spending hours with the colour charts I think we are going to paint the whole lot... white.

I'd love to do it all a chic shade of light/dove grey but there isn't enough natural light and it would look too insipid.

ASecretLemonadeDrinkerDAVE · 06/05/2010 15:22

Yellow - a nice yellow. It's dulux lumitec and with 2 windows and a door with window it glows all nice and warm All white woodwork and banisters and am getting a sisal brown stair carpet.

MadreInglese · 06/05/2010 15:23

would lots of natural light be required for darker colours or would we get away with higher watt bulbs?

Seashell - aka magnolia

Francagoestohollywood · 06/05/2010 15:24

I'd go for light grey. Or pale, dusty blue

MadreInglese · 06/05/2010 15:26

I've been thinking wedgewood blue but wonder if that would be too twee

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 06/05/2010 15:30

Oh I approve of wedgewood blue, no, not too twee, you have to offset it with dramatic lamp.

NorkyButNice · 06/05/2010 15:34

Grey, grey, grey!

We have just finished renovating a doer-upper and our lounge, master bed and hallway are various shades of grey.

Hallway is Dulux Tin White - it's bluey-grey and changes with the light. White woodwork really lifts it, it looks very sophisticated if I do say so myself!

MadreInglese · 06/05/2010 15:51

long thin hallway so would have to be dramatic lightshade rather than lamp

how dark is the grey-blue?

Icelandic blue with full moon woodwork and stairs.

twolittledarlings · 06/05/2010 20:21

Our hallway is AppleWhite from Dulux Light and Space range. Its really bright and airy. We had this painted over all 3 floors. Slight hint of light green mixed with white and its lovely. Goes really well with all the Oak Flooring/Staircase.

Hulababy · 06/05/2010 20:27

Ours are all white; recently painted to cover the builder's magnolia.

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/05/2010 13:54
