Living next to a large secondary school - would you?

We have seen a lovely house exactly opposite a secondary school. There is residents only parking outside the house, but I would imagine the road is very busy first thing and then about 3.30pm. I dont think that would be an issue for us as we would be out to work before it gets busy and home after the afternoon rush.

Is there any other disadvantage to living so close to a school? If you do, or have done, I would appreciate your thoughts.

We live pretty close to a secondary school. I don't think it causes too many travel problems - there are also a couple of primary schools nearby which cause far more traffic.

The main downside is the mob of kids you get at turning out time, many of them not very pleasant or considerate. The litter is bad too.

During the school day, it is fine.

We also lived opposite a secondary school and as MTB says, there tends to be more of an issue with traffic outside primary schools.
Also agree that litter is one of biggest problems. We did see a few children playing truent on various occasions and the odd one or two used to hide in bushes at the front of our house, but we never had any reason to complain.
Wouldn't stop us buying a house if we were in that situation again.

I grew up living opposite a secondary school. The main problems were:

  1. litter - children eating sweets, crisps, chips, then discarding the wrappings, plus lots of drinks bottles. A lot of this ended up in our front garden.
  2. gangs of children hanging around for ages after school. It could be quite threatening and intimidating.
  3. school holidays - gangs of youths would hang out in the school grounds to start fires, and generally be quite anti-social.

BUT that was in a grim inner city area. Things might be very different close to a 'nice' school in a 'nice' area.

It depends on the school tbh.

Thanks all - I will try to drive by at going home time during the week, just to see it at its most busy.

One other small point - ILs used to live next to a sec school which did a lot of evening classes. As a result, parking in their area was v busy around these times too.

I do remember it being a real pain if I wanted to visit in the evening

Are you at home in the day time? If so remember it will be noisy at break times when you may want to relax in the garden?
