We had the chimney breast re-plastered on thursday in the front room. The wooden slatted blinds are filthy as is the book case (I asked the guys to move it first but 'they forgot' ).

I've hoovered the wooden slates and the shelves on the bookcase to get the top layer off. i can wipe the books with a damp cloth.

What should I now wipe the blinds with and the fireplace please? I assumed damp cloth would be best but DH (he who knows everything apparently ) says no because the pink plaster dust will just seep into everything.

Anyone know please? TIA.

Hee hee a DH like mine. Just had windows done and the brick dust is everywhere. I used a handful of kitchen roll paper, wet it and squeeze it out well. This will remove the layer of dust. Any residue just go over again with a new bit of roll paper dampened as before. You can then use a dry duster to buff it up. I use a sock on my hand to clean the blinds!

I assume they "forgot" to move your bookcase because they were there to plaster your chimney breast, not move your furniture around. If you weret hat bothered you should have moved it yourself.

sorry, but DH is a plasterer and when he quotes for jobs, he doesn't have "removal man" added into that quote

Anyway. Hot soapy water and a just-damp cloth. Don't understand the "seep" comment from your DH, how will it seep into stuf if it's wiped away?

It had been agreed beforehand MamaG that they would move the bookcase but the agreement was with the 'boss' who gave me the quote, not the men who came to do the job. The men, when I asked them to move it and explained that it had been agreed, said it was no problem.

Thanks both of you for your tips. I found a radiator cleaner thing yesterday that I'd got from Tchibo and it was fab for the blinds. i did it dry first to get most of the rubbish off and then damp and they seem to have come up quite well. I can still taste dust in the room though but i guess that will just take time huh?
