A long shot I know, but I viewed a wooden Swedish house today which I really liked and may put an offer in, but I want to make sure there's nothing I'm missing about what it's like to live in / insurance things etc.
Apparently there are only a few thousand of them in the UK - they were shipped over after the war by the Swedish government 'flatpack' - think Ikea house!
The EA thought that some major banks would lend on it - but I'm not sure if they would charge a higher rate because it's of unusual construction? I would imagine it's built to withstand winters/good insulation etc if it's come from Sweden, but the house I saw only had open fireplaces and Rayburn for heating. Oh, and only single-glazing, which I guess we could change to double or even triple!
The EA admitted he didn't really know how to value it as he'd never seen one like it - it's on for 185, 2 bed, 2 reception but huge garden "in a very desirable village" where a bogstandard semi might go for closer to 300. It doesn't show up on land registry so I don't even know how much it was bought for.
So - does anyone own one, or have you in the past viewed one and decided not to buy it - if so, can you tell me why?
Thanks in advance if you are able to shed any light!
