Our airing cupboard is in ds's bedroom, not a problem really, the hot water tank doesn't wake him up. However the shower pump is also in there and it's really noisy and dh wakes him up every morning when he has a shower. Is there a product, like a sound proofing foam or something similar I can cut to size and fit to the inside walls of the airing cupboard to reduce as much of the noise as possible?

yes I am sure there is, google or ebay products that soundproof music studios etc. will prob be a bit more robust (and expensive) than foam but will do the job.

better still maybe get someone in professional to quote if you can and give you options.

Wickes have a good insulation board - it looks like very thick green cardboard/ paper- we used it in the upstairs bathroom and you can hardly hear the bath run etc.

This company specialise in acoustic boards and there are a few decent deals just now.

I've just build two sound recording booths at work. I used a dimpled foam, glued to the walls and door, as well as other stuff but that's more to do with feed-back and echo rather than sound-proofing.

The dimpled foam is easily ordered from sound-proofing specialists but, to be honest, it's just thick foam so a trip up the market to buy foam sheeting would be cheaper and just as effective.

One word of caution - our shower pump is in the airing cupboard and they do need air circulating around them, so be careful how you apply the foam and make sure the pump still has space around it.

yellowfork, I did google around but it all looks very technical and I don't have a clue what I'm looking for really. I'm not sure if it has to be fire proof as it'll be going on the walls of the airing cupboard which is quite small, and houses the shower pump.

Gentleotter, thanks for the wickes tip off, I'll have a look. Perhaps a few layers of that stuff will help.

Doodlez - I've seen that dimpled foam stuff at my work too, perhaps I can strip some from there I was concerned about air circulation and fire hazards too...

Thanks for your help everyone.

It is for under laminate flooring and about 3/4 inch thick.
