Reasonable rates to pay a friend in need of money for odd jobs?

I've got a friend in dire need of money and I've got some painting (hall touch ups from pregnancy nesting urges and a single kitchen wall) and some Mega weeding/earth-turning in a patch on the side of my house.
What's a decent wage to offer? I don't want to insult or underpay, but also don't go over the top.

We did this recently
We had to find someone to do the jobs so asked him rather than a sympathy job if that makes sense
I think we paid £10 an hour ( he was slooooooow though)

Yeah I am a little worried about pace as I cannot have half done stuff with my Moo running around (but this is also why I cannot seem to get to these things myself). Plus, he's got nothing else going on so why not make it last from sheer trying to stave off boredom...

offer him £10 per hour but work out in advance how long it will take,

so, maybe say allow a day for painting indoors (£70) and however long for gardening.

i think i would approach it along the lines of I reckon £10 per hour is fair, but can only afford £70- could you do it in that time

Ah that's a good idea Ageing5. It helps to keep things level. And if he thinks it can't be done then he can say.
