Have carpet fitted on stairs? Two steps to a landing and then about 10 more steps up.

Fairly narrow, L-shaped staircase.

just fitted? or carpet as well?

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 18:36

fitted and carpet.

It depends on how much per square foot the carpet is and how the fitting charge is worked out.

You could probably get it done for about £100 or under I should think but the carpet wouldn't be a great quality.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 18:57

Hmm. I'll see the fitter down the road, then. I just didn't want to go in there if it was immediately going to be some £500 thing.

This is a council flat. We'll be looking at the £100-£200 option .

I had quote for mine about 2 years ago, and it was £350, but that wasn't the cheapest carpet.

Still haven't had it done though, have been here 6 and the stairs have never had carpet on

whatname · 28/04/2010 19:07

I think you should be able to get it done for £200.

it sort of needs done because the stairs are getting quite worn in the middle.

I have some carpet you could have, but I'm guessing you are indeed in Scotland?!!

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 19:55

Heehee. Yes, in Scotland!

I'd get my mum to fit it. In return for Tea. I have no respect for age...

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 20:01

I was going to get my SIL's partner to fit it, but he's already going to be hanging shelves and doing floors, too. Haahahaa.

EggyAllenPoe · 28/04/2010 20:06

surely those bored-looking guys at carpetrite will do you a quote for carpet & fitting?

they do it the fast & dirty way though, with cut edges and grip strips...

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 20:14

We're a long long way from a CarpetRite.

Have you moved again? Is it better for you all?

onepieceoflollipop · 28/04/2010 20:17

iirc our local carpet place fits stair carpets for about £40 (that's just the fitting price, obviously) and about £25 for an average room.

"fast and dirty way" Eggy? It's not that kind of thread I don't think!

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 20:17

We moved in October, noddy, but it's still in the same area.

And we need carpet on the stairs. There are a lot of gaps, too, in a couple of them.

atworknotworking · 28/04/2010 20:42

Its the underlay that costs the most I find. Could you manage without underlay? perhaps get a spongebacked carpet, then you could probably do it for £100-£120 if its just the treads.

I rather like the thought of painted stairs atm, some really nice looking ones in the Dulux book, doubt it would be that practical though with kiddies running up and down all day.

noddyholder · 28/04/2010 20:42

I hope it works out for you!Wish i was nearer i can lay carpet .

EggyAllenPoe · 28/04/2010 20:47

how is a man like a carpet??

arf arf.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2010 20:49

I like painted stairs, too, but yep, three young children.

I saw that in the catalogue, atwork, and it's gorgeous. I used 'Willow Tree' in DS's room and it's soooo lovely.
