Ideas for very small bedrooms for 10 and 11 year old dc

We've been searching for a flat or house for ages (to rent, in Germany) and have atlast found something which isn't the dream place but we're so fed up of turning things down because one or two things aren't right.

Anyway this place has 2 very small bedrooms for ds and dd. I need some tips on how best to make the rooms nice. Do any of you have dc in really almost box rooms (they must be about 9m² to 10m² max.) - dd has half high bed so she can make a reading area underneath but ds has just got a new single with one of those drawers for a spare bed underneath.

My DS? bedroom is about 8-9sq.m. and I don?t consider it a shoe box :/ We fit there his bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bookcase and big climbing frame (desk would defo fit instead). It is OK for one child. I have seen smaller shoeboxes

i agree, a 9-10msq room doesnt sound small at all. my DDs bedroom is about 7msq and i can fit her single bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside table in there with room to spare its just a matter of using the available space wisely.

Thanks, that's reassuring.

We used to have a really big place and they each had 16m² so they were pulling long faces abit when we showed them where we would be moving. They've been spoiled abit I guess.

Anyway, it can only be better than where we are now - they have to share a room and there's this imaginary barbed wire fence down the middle of the room to stop fighting.

You could let them live in the rooms for a bit and be fed up. Then, transform them with new duvet covers, curtains etc all in one go. My mum and sister did this for me when I had a titchy room, and I was thrilled (only room for a bed, desk and wall cupboards). They actually also did it when I was a bit sick, so it was even more of a treat. Actually, depending on whether the kids can reach them and you are allowed to put them up, I'd recommend wall cupboards. I loved stashing my stuff in there, it was like being on a ship.
