bedroom furniture...any suggestions?

Rather unexpectedly I find myself without any bedroom furniture for DS1 and 2 (due to Ex deciding to appropriate all the existing stuff...long story not for this thread, but that's how things stand atm).

I need to get something sorted asap, as in the meantime their clothes are in boxes, books, games, TV, Xbox etc all over the floor....I was thinking of just buying anything secondhand as a temp measure, but as prices seem to start from £100+, figure I may as well just buy something new that I like.

Problem is I dont actually know what I want. Other than for their rooms to look tidy and organised DS1 and 2 are 9 and nearly 12 and frankly have no interest in furniture etc, so will be happy with anything that keeps their clothes out of boxes!

Does anyone have any suggestions/recommendations to inspire me? Would prefer not to spend masses - they both have metal framed beds but literally nothing else in their rooms (which are approx 12' x 12'). I dont know whether I should be looking to have some sort of storage system built in, rather than free standing wardrobes etc or whether the cost would be prohibitive? Help!

Go to your nearest recycling centre (that's a tip to you and me ). I kitted my bedroom out with some fabulous vintage stuff, gave it all a lick of white paint and now everybody comments on how much I must have spent to get such nice stuff (not that I have a stream of people passing through my bedroom you understand). I'd far rather buy good quality secondhand bits than crappy flatpack, as I found out to my disadvantage by getting dd a chest of drawers from Argos which has fallen apart after less than a year

Have you tried Freecycle? Many areas also have furniture recycling schemes run by charities, eg Emmaus

I got the cheapest IKEA range (Aneboda) for my DS, i.e. chest of drawers, single wardrobe and plane white bookcase. It costed me around £100 (everything) and serves the purpose. At least I will not cry when DS decides to decorate furniture to his own taste. Only his bed is more expensive from Kiddicare. I dont' see a point of buying expensive furniture for children...
