What happens about leaving blinds behind?

We have sold our house, and when we have moved before, always taken blinds with us, but in this house, we had to have the bay window and dining room custom made as they were an odd size( wooden venetian ones). They won't fit in new house, but they cost £350 four years ago. What's the correct procedure/etiquette for offering or including them in the sale? Do I have to leave them for free, or can I charge extra for them? They're no use to me, but I wouldn't mind £100/£150 towards some for the new place!

Make sure they are not listed as a fixture or fitting, and offer to negotiate a separate price.

I've always left things like that for free to be honest.

I even left furniture for free in the last house as it was no use to us and they were first time buyers. Obviously I made sure that they actually wanted it first!

Thanks, we have a firebasket that I was going to see if they wanted to buy as it won't fit the new fireplace, and I could sell that on if they didn't want it. Do you think about £100 or so would be reasonable to ask for the blinds? They would essentially only be paying for 1 out of 4 blinds.

If they won't fit in your new house they are worthless to you aren't they. Seems a bit off tbh to ask for money for them (esp as it's only £100). Would be different if it was a range cooker worth several thousand. Why potentially cause bad feelings between you and your buyers for such a small amount if money (relative to the cost if the house)

hophophippidtyhop · 18/04/2010 12:27

That's what I was leaning towards, decorhate. If I could sell elsewhere if they said no, fair enough for asking money for them, but as I can't I feel a bit daft. I've never sold stuff on before, don't want to piss the buyers off either. And I should be filling in about five different forms instead of alternating between dawdling on here and looking for things for the new place!

We have very expensive fitted blinds in our living room and I am just leaving them. They are no use to us, so I cannot see the point in asking for them. I kind of see them as part of the house. Likewise, I negotiated that our sellers will leave their curtains behind so that I don't immediately need to get new curtains for all the windows.

marytontie · 19/04/2010 16:48

I would not ask for extra money for them

NoseyNooNoo · 19/04/2010 16:53

I wouldn't charge for them - not worth the ill-feeling.

LIZS · 19/04/2010 16:53

When you complete the fixtures and fittings list you can offer them as available to buy . But if they aren't bothered enough to pay for them what would you do - leave or take? If leave then it is surely greedy to expect them to pay out extra in the first place.

andiem · 19/04/2010 16:54

Asking for money for them comes across as a bit tight imo
When we moved into our current house they had even taken the smoke alarms as well as all curtains lightbulbs etc. We just though w*kers tbh

When we were buying our old house the seller wanted us to pay for the cooker as it was relatively new. We had a standalone fridge-freezer that we would have had to get rid off as the house had them built in. So we did a trade off, we didn't pay for the cooker and got our ff in return.

When we sold that house 3 years ago we left all the blinds including a very very expensive Laura Ashley custom made roman blind, it was no use to us in this house.
