Do you save up and get a whole room done or keep chipping away ?

There is so much to do, we started out with £20k to do the kitchen and bathroom and 18 months later neither is totally finished and lovely.
Just daft things like tiling and a blind to finish the kitchen and then some piping needs boxing in and painting in the bathroom.
But of course these things cost money and it's taking us ages to free up any cash, one step forward two steps back kind of thing.
So am going to finish both the kitchen and bathroom with the next little chunk of money, but the new baby needs a bedroom sorting and I'm not sure whether to get the window done, save up, get the carpet replaced, save up decorate. Or just wait and get it all done in one which could be this time next year
How do you feel as if you're making progress ?

I do a room at a time because it's easier to cope with the mess that way. And it means you can close the door and forget about it when you're tired or sick of it.

Do you mean replace the window or paint it. If you mean sanding it down and painting, I'd do window first, then decorate, then replace the carpet. Definitely redecorate before buying a new carpet or it'll get paint & dust on.

I always take a photo of each room before I start and then go back to it when I get a bit depressed. I've done a flat in London and two houses so far (on my own) and I shall choose a scruffy house next time as well. Must be a glutton for punishment.

Save up and do it all at once - I think it's a lot more practical, and am regretting not having done this. If not, you end up like me, living in a vague mess in every room!

What Grendelsmum said, I regret having no rooms properly finished.

Have done a little in each room in this house. Has taken 7 years to finish everything and the state of the place generally has seemed totally overwhelming at times. From this point onwards I would redecorate one room at a time.
However am about to move and will probably do same again. Some jobs just go together. Eg in new house we need a couple of new walls and a couple of new door openings. Different rooms / parts of house but think would cost more not to get them done at same time. And that's how it starts ....!

We save up and then do a room in one hit. Its less disruption and I don't like unfinished rooms.

Ideally I would love to save up and do a room at a time. Unfortunatley we live in a v old house - the original bit was built in the 17C -and as bits break/blow up (electrics) and fall off we have to deal with them.
DH has pointed out that by the time we are finished it would have been cheaper to knock it down and build a new house. I grit my teeth and say a new house would never have the character of this one...
