Chalet bungalow - how to add character?

Hi, considering buying one, but disappointed with lack of character and not sure how to put some in!!

Loads of space so that's fab but I am thinking the way to go is modern, but I would like a more old/new mix if poss?

Anyone live in one and got some fab ideas or are there any books on bungalow design?

Thanks.

this is a good book on that kind of theme.

It's not the bungalow as much as the era is it? When was it built/last fitted out?

Do you mean inside or out? One of my friends have just renovated a 70s chalet bungalow. The outside has been rendered and timber panelling added - very modern and they have a very groovy front door. I would def go modern but with a retro twist not sure if you could go really old but hey its your house so decorate how you like as only you have to live in it!! I am sure people think I have some very odd choices in my place but I love it.

Bit of both Strig - your friends place sounds great! The bungalow would be completely gutted really so could do anything I guess.

tootootired - that book looks good. Guess bungalow is post war maybe.

Think conran habitat white walls oak floors large artworks and simple elegant furniture.Avoid fussy traditional detail as this will look old biddyish I am considering doing something similar atm

Knock it down and put a house on the plot would be a good starting point. (grin)

Yes his house is lovely now very envious - I was really surprised what he was able to do with what I thought was a dreary 70s house! It has really made me rethink them as our next option you often get quite good floor space or at least a decent garden so can extend. I have been googling trying to find an picture of something similar but have not come up with any images!
