Hi,

I'm looking at revamping a small kitchen on a very tight budget. Can anyone recommend any reasonable internet companys. Just replacing doors maybe an option.

Any advice gratefully received

Thanks

Can you paint the doors and units to change their look? Will need special primer and paint but easily obtained at DIY shops.

Can you change the lighting and flooring as that can really change the look of a room?

If you're using a builder to install it, ask if they have a trade account at Howdens, or Magnet as trade prices are cheaper. Also, worth phoning B&Q etc to see if they any display kitchens they're selling off cheap.

Have a look on Ebay. I watched a prog recently where the people doing up their home bought everything considerably cheaper via Ebay. shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=kitchen+units&_sacat=See-All-Categories

Paint your own MDF doors: CJF trading

Have you any idea where original units are from and could standard doors fit them?

The cheapest Ikea kitchens are very reasonable - but with a whole new kitchen you will have fitting costs to think about.

What needs revamping and what could you live with - layout, worktops, sink, taps, tiles, floor?

Came across discount kitchen factory www.discountkitchenfactory.com (or .co.uk) in my search, seems genuine as they really do manufacture all the bits in situ. Terribly inexpensive!
Haven't tried them myself though.

The layout, sink, taps etc are fine. The fronts were painted in the past but really could do with being replaced now and a draw unit will need replacing as all the draws have collapsed. Not sure where the original was purchased but think they are standard sizes, sorry about being vague its mil's kitchen.

Great I iwll have a look at all the suggestions. Thank you.

You can buy just doors and drawer fronts from B&Q on www.diy.com - obviously check measurements but the widths are usually standard, and height not too crucial. Will you have someone on hand who can re-drill hinge holes, trim edges etc to line everything up?

Then you could get just a drawer unit to blend in - we did that once in a rented place. Isaac Lord and Woodfit are both good for drawers and all sorts of fittings; Metabox are a good solid but cheap drawer system.

Collapsed drawers - you may just need a set of drawer runners. SDS London have them to fit all sizes and types. Look at this page. I had an old MFI kitchen and saved a load of money replacing the runners instead.

I also replaced door pulls and drawer pulls and it made such a difference. www.sdslondon.co.uk/cupboard-drawer-pulls-handles.html.

I reorganised the insides of the cupboards with fixed fittings. Look at this page. I even got new legs for my breakfast bar!

I got everything I needed from SDS, anything I was unsure about, they were extremely helpful on the phone and delivered the next day
