we are planning a new kitchen in a victorian/ edwardian house with an aga. what sort of sink have you recently put in or considered? i rather like the square ones which come under the granite work top or whatever eg www.simplykitchensinks.co.uk/index.asp?SKSID=840&ItemID=1958 but dh is insisting on a half sink next to it. we hav lots of space so should we have two sinks next to each other sharing the tap? what kind of tap do you like? i like the soft hose thing but not sure if that is just a faddy request? give me some views!

Hi

We are moving soon to a very traditional 1920's house and in the new kitchen we are having, we are putting in one side a butler sink under a granite worktop (utility part of the kitchen) and on the other side (the cooking side), we have got a double belfast sink including a waste disposal. For taps, we have chosen a chrome swan neck tap. You can see the ones I mean in the Howdens website though these are trade only so our builder are getting it for us. Our kitchen is quite traditional looking and will mix with the range cooker quite nicely. (hopefully)

I had a standard sink and a half sink in my last kitchen. I refitted it recently and put in an Ikea Belfast style sink like this. Not only is porcelain a hell of a lot easier to clean than stainless steel or plastic but joy of joys it is big enough to soak roasting pans in! And oven trays. I cannot tell you how happy it has made me. I have also got one of those horse penis taps (can't remember where I bought it from) and again I love, love, love it. So in conclusion, if you have the space to have an extra half sink next to yours, go for it but do not skimp on sink size to get the half sink.

I like those undermounted sinks that you linked to but also love the huge Belfast type.

In my dream kitchen I would have a massive single sink for soaking roasting pans etc. Then a seperate sink for preping veg and washing hands. Ideally this sink would be round and fitted into the island unit or near the cooker.

ladybiscuit does the fact that the basin has a lip over the worksurface (no drainage) annoy you ? whan happens with all th water from the dishes? and wtf is a horse penis tap.....

Herhonesty - I do very little washing up to be honest - most stuff goes in the dishwasher. I have a rack on the work surface I put anything I do wash up into but I tend to dry it up almost straight away. A horse penis is a pull out tap that basically is like a shower hose. I think I may have spent too long hanging round stables in my youth

We have a Astracast bistro one and half bowls. Ours is with a walnut block worktop. I love it.

This is a bit late but can anyone recommend a sink that is big enough to soak Aga pans and racks? Preferably a double sink? Thank you!

Putthatbookdown · 12/07/2012 17:32

The problem with porcelain sinks is that you must never drop anything in it by accident whereas with ssteel it ismuch stronger

PigletJohn · 12/07/2012 17:55

I have had separate sinks before and hate it. Water gets betwen them.

Zwitterion · 13/07/2012 04:59

We have a large deep under mounted stainless steel butlers type sink, smeg I think. It's large enough to soak the trays from our range cooker, which as others have said upthread makes me very happy!

And a tiny sink next to it, really just for tipping away liquid when said trays are soaking in the other sink. It's not big enough though, ideally we'd have gone bigger but no room because of its giant neighbour.

Tap mixer swan neck job with a pull out hose. Falke?

Nope, they make tights. Franke.
