How do I make it stop!

We have new neighbours, been there a few weeks. From day one its been constant banging which, I'd expect if you were just moving in, but it's now progressed to blasting out music at all hours and as much as we've tried to speak to them they simply refuse to answer the door.

I've tried putting a note through asking them politely to turn it down just a little, no response.

We are caring for a new baby with health problems and our grandson is coming to stay for a couple of weeks over Easter and his room is next to the party wall.

Is there anything I can do other than ring the police which i
I'm loathe to do, wuss that I am.

Local councils often have noise/nuisance departments who may be able to do something... worth a try?

hope you get it sorted.

Start keeping a diary of what noise/when/ etc. I think the council would ask for this before they are able to intervene.

So sorry this is happening, I've been reading about your LO, seems karma is being VERY unreasonable. You're doing an amazing thing.

Local council -environment dept I think. Diary is a good idea. I think you can report it anonymously but who else would be reporting it.
They come out and check the decibel level -there are set limits. If it is too high they can be issued with a noise abatement order. If they continue to offend any kit relating to the noise can be seized and destroyed.

Feel very sorry for you -bad neighbours are horrific.

Thanks everyone, sorry I was busy with lo who had an unsettled day yesterday.

Can council do anything if its a privately rented place?

The diary is a good idea, well it's better than Dh's sleep deprived one of putting their windows out

If it's rented, contact the council and ask for the details of the property owner/landlord. You can then contact him and tell him about the problems - things like this will be written into their tenancy agreement, so he can give them a warning. Failing that, I would register a noise complaint with the council. It may also be worth having a chat to the other neighbours in the area, the noise might be bothering them too and group action will have more sway.

Yes the council can still intervene even if it's a private property, if the noise is above a certain level, as it's a public nuisance - doesn't matter that they are not council tenants.
