How much does a good quality decent size new kitchen cost?

OK so I presume it's a bit of a how long is a piece of string thing but how much for:

  • no structural work
  • new units, tiling, oven and dishwasher, new sink, worktops etc.
  • flooring for 30ft x 12ft room
  • units along one side for about 15ft, one side of about 5ft and one side of about 8ft.

Probably mid-range to upper mid range - it needs to fit in a decent five bed house so not Smallbone of Devizes type of thing but not Moben/ MFI/ Ikea either.

Can anyone give me a really vague figure - perhaps based on how much theirs cost?

handmade units incl painting and fitting - 9.5k

worktops - 2.5k
tiling - not sure yet!
aga. alot.

tbh, in my experience, a kitchen can cost as much as you want it to!

forgot electrics - £500

Depends a bit on what kind of worktop you go for, whether your floor is slate or lino etc.

I'd guess from your spec about £15-18k from John Lewis, based on what ours cost. Incidentally, we had a good experience with our JL kitchen fitted before Christmas, and got all of our appliances from them too.

HTH.

We had a small local firm do a very rough quote for a similar size kitchen, mid-range (individually made to order but not smallbone etc!) and it came out at £10k before fitting/appliances/granite etc...

GeekyGirl · 24/03/2010 00:00

£12k total

Comprising £4k labour (including removing old kitchen, replastering, retiling, electrics, moving boiler, enlarging window) and £8k for solid oak Second Nature units, NEFF double oven & gas hob, washing machine, dishwasher, plus Siemens fridge freezer, sink, taps, laminate worktops, wall tiles.

Kitchen is about 14ft x 8ft

The £12k is about twice as much as we originally thought it would cost and I'm shocked that we're spending so much and still aren't getting granite worktops! Oh well.

cece · 24/03/2010 14:27

Oh and my new kitchen pics are on my profile.

JHKE · 24/03/2010 14:36

Sorry for Hijack but Cece - how big is your kitchen diner (in meters please) we are thinking of extending to create a larger kitchen dining living room and trying to gage room for things and yours looks roomy.

cece · 24/03/2010 16:34

4.2 m x about 9 m.

Kitchen end is about 4.2 x 3.8 m

The rest has dining table and sofa area in it.

OP here - I namechanged.

OK best get saving my money for this then...I think we thought it'd be less. Yikes.

Will look at your pics cece

gleegeekgleek · 25/03/2010 09:28

Am swooning Cece. I really like it. So light and bright and clean looking.

cece · 25/03/2010 15:47

Thanks

Well I economised a bit on the units. They are Wickes ones.

I spent the money on the worktop and posh appliances - things people see.

BTW I could show you a photo of what it looks like today but I would have to kill you The Bf-bar gets covered in clutter
