If you live in a new build and are blissfully happy come share with me

Time has come ( well according to dp) to step into the real world and back onto the property market. Being a "poverty stricken" key worker we just qualify for one of the homebuy schemes. This means we have to buy a new build though. We have started the ball rolling on a new build.

We are currently renting a very quaint cottage on a country estate with rolling hills all around us. The thought of going to live on housing estate overlooking other people does not excite me.

There are plusses, we will have effective central heating, we will not have to sellotape up the floorboards to keep the drafts out and the windows do not allow a hurricane though. The newbuild also looked very clean as it is not surrounded by a mudbath, it is lighter and the kictchen is bigger.

But I feel sad. I know we are lucky to be able to buy so please don't all appear and shout you spolit bitch get on with it.

I love my home - it's not a Kirsty forever home but it's nice.

Fimbow - do you live in my house? Snap! 3 years old, new-build... I'd love an old character house, or ideally a converted barn. We looked at lots before buying this place - almost bought TWO barns, but lack of storage space, dodgy boundary lines and being on the farmer's land all put us off. This house has a fab kitchen, loads of storage, walk in wardrobes, double garage to house all our crap.... all for LESS that we almost paid for a three-bed little barn.

It's not our forever home, the magnolia walls haven't been painted or wall-papered yet but we've added our personal touches through-out, although I'd love to be let loose with wallpaper, farrow and ball paint and kartell lamps, but we can't afford those luxuries right now.

LOL - Mirrorball. I am in a small village in Norfolk. Like Tigga this is not our forever house but it was £65k cheaper than the original 70's chalet bungalow we were going to buy that fell through which also need remodelling to make it workable for us. I shudder every time I think about it now and I so glad we chose the new build.

I am in a beautiful period house at the moment. I love the house but the cost involved has meant I work too hard, never see my DCs and was generally really unhappy. We are selling up and moving to a newer, smaller house. Its not a new build but I would have taken a new build if that was what had come along. My point is I will miss my house but I would rather be happy in a smaller house than live in big one and be depressed because I never see my children. Life is too short and I cannot believe it took me 2 years to realise that.
