What do you do if you just CANT sell your house?

House has been on market since June 2009. Stupidly we turned down an offer we got on it shortly after and have had no offers since. The problem is that their is physically nothing more we can do to the house, it has been completely done up and everyone who views comments on how lovely it is. Main thing (and its a huge thing) wrong with it is their is no parking - we don't have a driveway and have to park on the street. All our neighbours have loads of cars which means the road is always rammed full of cars and parking is a nightmare.

We can't obviously do anything about this and I'm getting sick of feedback from the estate agent which is that people love the house but wont buy it because their isn't any parking (even though they view the house knowing this).

At the moment I just can't see us ever moving and have started thinking the only way left is to auction it off. Anyone done this or know anything about it? I assume we'd have to sell it a loss but to be honest this would be preferable to living in the house for the rest of my life.. We keep getting stuff through in the post from companies offering to buy our house but am sure I've read that most of these schemes are dodgy.... Only other thing I could think of was to do a part exchange on a new build but having looked into this we'd have to buy a more expensive house which we just can't afford to do.

Gordon Brown was PM when this thread started. Boyzone were number 1 in the album charts. Rolf Harris performed at Glastonbury that year.

Not only has the house probably sold by now, the impending baby is now 7 years old! Grin

Lilmisskittykat · 21/02/2017 15:29

Ah but we need to know now... did it sell?! Grin

gillybeanz · 21/02/2017 15:33

can you not get the residents together and talk to the council.
We did this in our street and ended up with residents parking permits.
OK we have to pay about £100 per year, this includes visitor permit and daily visitor permits.
Council make a fortune through fining people without permits.

anyname123 · 21/02/2017 15:34

Take your house off the market, wait a month, put it back on. When I look at Rightmove if I see a house has been for sale for years I'm immediately put off and wouldn't even view. As a new to the market (again!) House you'll generate more interest. Also, who are you attracting - are you near a hospital / university?

gillybeanz · 21/02/2017 15:34

Bloody hell, I should check dates, who resurrected this.
The OP has probably had a couple of moves in this time.

Redglitter · 21/02/2017 15:37

If must look awful to have had it on the market 7 years

FFS it's not been on the market 7 years the blooming thread is 7 years old Confused

How do folk find these to resurrect them

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 21/02/2017 15:39

I need to know if this sold 😂

WicksEnd · 21/02/2017 15:39

OFFS
When will MNHQ put the fucking zombie warning at the start of the thread?

I, along with others have been asking for zombie years.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 21/02/2017 15:42

red, I think they get hauled up on google searches.

Oblomov17 · 21/02/2017 17:12

I'd also go back to school the council. You are being fobbed off. You don't need all the residents to sign a petition.

A decision needs to be 'in the best interests of' . Not necessarily of all, majority. The 2 households with 6/8 cars, are bound to object, aren't they? Point this out to the council. And the fact that all the neighbouring streets are.

And the fact that this is making a nightmare for you to commute to work and park your cars etc, you really need to lay on thick.

Take it off the market. Put it back on in a month or so.

OVienna · 21/02/2017 17:26

I'm sending the OP a PM. Shall I? What if it hasn't sold after 7 years though, and she goes into meltdown?

littlemissM92 · 21/02/2017 17:27

I'm scared ? We really really like it. It it still isn't 'perfect ' nothing is unless u have an unlimited amount of money surely ? X

littlemissM92 · 21/02/2017 18:04

Sorry wrong thread!

PunjanaTea · 21/02/2017 18:41

Oh my I couldn't understand why none of the responses were picking up on why this hadn't sold in 8 years!!! Would also love an update from the OP although I very much doubt there'll be one.

MongerTruffle · 21/02/2017 20:16

The people we bought the house off 5 years ago lied and told us residents' parking was coming into force and naively I believed them without checking.

Do the same

weller7104 · 09/08/2017 19:25

I would tell the estate agent to speak to buyers beforehand so that they completely understand there is no parking. It may put off 8 out of 10 buyers but the two that do come are coming in with an open mind. I use to get really annoyed when buyers came round and said or fedback we "didn't have an en suite " It didnt say in the details we had one , so why waste my time and all the tidying up ( not to mention theirs) coming to see it. EIther think of a way round things or don't view it !!

OldLagNewName · 10/08/2017 10:30

Do you think this thread will still be running by the time the child has left home? Grin

wheresmyphone · 11/08/2017 00:42

Could you convert into flats?

AhoyPirates · 11/08/2017 09:48

THIS THREAD IS 7 YEARS OLD

Stop activating zombie threads.

This is the thread that never dies, it keeps coming back up.

MMHQ there should be a warning at the top of the thread for zombie threads.

lampert · 11/08/2017 09:59

OP, can you drop the price a little? Most things will sell at the right price but I realise it's hard when you feel it's worth more and you need the cash for your next place x

lampert · 11/08/2017 10:00

Sorry ignore me- just saw you said that already! Blush

lampert · 11/08/2017 10:01

Doh and it's ancient. Back in my box....
