Tiny boxroom - need a single cabin bed with a compact frame

Our boxroom is very small, and it has the stair box in it. When we bought the house we expected to have to get a 'shorty' mid sleeper to go over the stair box.

However I've since realised that the gap we have for the bed is 192 cm and a standard single mattress is 190 cm, so I'm on the lookout for a cabin bed with an extremely compact frame, maybe just sheets of MDF at each end. Or does anyone have any better ideas? Asked DH if he'd be able to build one but he thinks it outside his capabilities, plus he has NO time!

It would be fantastic to be able to get a standard single into the room, then DSS could use it! The Shorty beds are about 180 cm and he is 12 so it wouldn't be big enough.

Has anybody seen anything suitable? Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, it'll have to be a cabin because it has to go above the slopey stair box thing. Thanks though! The one you linked is just a bit too long. DH said maybe a wooden one that he could plane a bit off!

www.boxroombeds.com

Try these chaps at Boxroom Beds. They modify the Thuka beds to a variety of lengths, not just the standard 'Shorty' length. We were very pleased with our shortened bunks.

Should have said, look at their 'Modified' range tab on the site. Good luck!

We got a local joiner in to build one over the stair box extending right along the wall with built in storage space (obviously not at the stair bit ! ) It wasn't too expensive , around 250 GBP but made a great room .

We have exactly the same problem and we've decided to get a local joiner to build us one. Its in the region of £200 and he's putting in bookcase and cupboard in for us as well.

Thanks all! Thrilled with the boxroom beds link. I think we may go for one of those. A joiner is a good idea too though. So many boxrooms out there, you'd think there would be more options.
