Continuing a style within a house

We're doing up our house. It's an Edwardian semi. We hope to sell it in about ten years after we've enjoyed it as a famiy home. We're bearing that in mind as we do it up.

So, is there any kind of 'rule' on style consistency within such a house?

I mean, if I were to get a traditional shaker stylee kitchen, would it be a bit of a fright to have sleek, modern bathrooms as opposed to more traditional ones?

I'm a bit clueless when it comes to interior design and more than a bit nervous about making the wrong decisions!

Help!

Not sure there are any rules and I think if you are hoping to stay for 10 years then its best to decorate in the styles you like.
A kitchen or bathroom fitted now may well look dated in 10 years time anyway.

That said, perhaps aim for a similar type of theme, ie classic/timeless etc, but that doesnt mean you cant have a shaker kitchen and modern bathroom. Just dont go too whacky/ultra modern with the bathroom if the kitchen is quite trad, if that makes sense?

Perhaps look on Livingetc website for ideas or borrow some books from the library for inspiration...

I think as long as you don't have extremes of design adjacent to one another, then you should be fine.

I wouldn't put minimalist, punky modern, and victorian gothic in adjoining rooms, but what you describe of a shaker kitchen and modern bathroom sounds fine. I'd like it anyway :D

Shaker style goes with both modern and traditional, rather a safe bet.

Will look on LIvingetc too for ideas.....
